PAHALGAM –JAMMU & KASHMIR VISIT OF HON’BLE VICE PRESIDENT OF INDIA, SHRI MOHD HAMID ANSARI ON 15 SEP 2012 TO JIM & WS 1 HON’BLE VICE PRESIDENT’S VISIT TO JAWAHAR INSTITUTE OF MOUNTAINEERING & WINTER SPORTS, PAHALGAM – J&K GENERAL Jawahar Institute of mountaineering & Winter Sports is a joint venture between Ministry of Defence, GOI and Deptt. Of Tourism Govt. of J&K. it is located at Pahalgam and sub training centers at Sanasar, Bhaderwah and Shey (Leh). The Institute has excelled in various mountaineering activities and adventure sports over last 29 years. Hon’ble Defence Minister GOI and Hon’ble Chief Minister Jammu & Kashmir are President and Vice President of the Institute respectively. HQ JIM & WS PAHALGAM AIM To visit the Institute and to experience and observe the adventure activities carried out by JIM & WS, Pahalgam. 2 APPROVED SCHEDULE PROGRAMME CARRIED OUT BY JIM & WS FOR THE VISIT OF HON’BLE VICE PRESIDENT SHRI MOHD HAMID ANSARI INTRODUCTION TO JIM & WS STAFF, INSTRUCTORS AND TRAINEES 1. The Principal of JIM&WS welcome and receive the Honb’le Vice President of India Shri Mohd Hamid Ansari along with His Excellency Shri NN Vohra, Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and presented a bouquet and then introduced with staff of the institute and members of Mount Golup Kangri expedition were happy to interact with the Hon’ble Vice President of India. WELCOMING AND PRESENTING BOUQUET 3 INTRODUCTION TO MOUNTAINEERING EQUIPMENT 2. Havildar Instructor Hazari Lal introduced the Hon’ble Vice President of India with various mountaineering specialized equipment used during adventure activities like mountaineering, water rafting, paragliding. Hon’ble Vice President of India showed keen interest in getting familiar with the equipment. INTRODUCTION TO MOUNTAINEERING EQUIPMENT JIM & WS BRIEF 3. Col Virinder Singh, Principal Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter sports briefed Hon’ble Vice President of India about the Institute’s existence, courses organized by the Institute, Aims and Objectives, number of students trained by the Institute and future planning on various activities going to take place at all sub training centers through power point presentation. After power point presentation the Hon’ble Vice President and His Excellency Governor of J&K were honoured with a Memento, Cap and lapel badges as a token of love from the Institute by the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Shri Farooq Ahmed Shah. After the briefing given by Col Virinder Singh, Principal (JIM&WS) demonstrated artificial climbing by using Jumar, Rappelling and Zipwire / Zipline were given to the Hon’ble Vice President by Instructors and trained staff of JIM&WS. Different types of hand & footholds used during rock climbing, river crossing by using rope, Pulley and carabineer were also explained to them. DEMO OF ARTIFICIAL CLIMBING ZIPWIRE / ZIPLINE FLAG OFF CEREMONY 5. After demonstration given by the JIM&WS Staff the Hon’ble Vice President Flag off the JIM&WS Expedition to Mt Golup Kangri in Leh (Ladakh) in which 46 students are participating from different teams of Air Force, Army and private students from different colleges and universities of India. The event was arranged at JIM&WS HQ, Nunwan, Pahalgam located at around one and half kms before Pahalgam market. The Principal, Instructors, staff of JIM&WS accompanied by students of Golup Kangri Expedition. GOC Head quarter “Victor Force”, locals of Anantnag (Pahalgam) and District Administration made tremendous efforts to make the visit successful in short notice. The Hon’ble Vice President and His Excellency were amazed and happy to see the tough and hard work done by JIM&WS & experience the adventure activities carried out at the Institute in a short notice. With mouthful praise they appreciated the arrangements and efforts put into by the Principal and the JIM&WS staff and gave beautiful remarks on visitor’s book of the Institute.
