Imperial College Symphony Orchestra Corporate Sponsorship Packages 2019-20 The Orchestra Imperial College Symphony Orchestra (ICSO) is the flagship orchestra of Imperial College London, a world class science and technology university based in the UK. The Orchestra consists of students and staff from across the university with many players studying their instruments with professors at the Royal College of Music. The Orchestra is rightly regarded as one of the best university orchestras in the UK, becoming “University Orchestra of the Year” in 2008 and being described by a member of the panel, (RPO Principal Bassoon Daniel Jamieson), as “sounding like a professional orchestra”. ICSO has made several appearances on film and television, including features on the BBC’s ‘The One Show’ and in a BAFTA winning episode of ‘Faking it’ featuring Punk Singer Chris Sweeny. The Orchestra also collaborated with Professor Lord Robert Winston for his BBC documentary series ‘The Human Mind’. The Orchestra was formed in 1948 and this season welcomed a new principal conductor, Oliver Gooch. ICSO frequently programmes concerts on Imperial’s campus in South Kensington and in venues across London such as Cadogan Hall. ICSO regularly makes international tours, which in recent years have seen the Orchestra perform concerts at the International Music Festival in Johannesburg, and at the Sibelius Hall in Helsinki. The Orchestra typically performs three concerts per season, and recent programmes have included Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, Holst’s The Planets and Walton’s Cello Concerto with BBC Young Musician 2012, Laura van der Heijden. Oliver Gooch Principal Conductor Oliver Gooch was appointed as Director of Music and Director of the Blyth Centre at Imperial College London in 2018, taking over as Principal Conductor of Imperial College Symphony Orchestra at the same time. He has established reputation as a conductor of considerable versatility in a wide range of symphonic and operatic repertoire. Following an appointment by Sir Antonio Pappano as the first Associate Conductor at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2004, his conducting career to date has seen collaborations with many of the major UK orchestras, including the LSO, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony, Hallé, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and Northern Sinfonia. Oliver received his training at Cambridge University, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio. He studied conducting at the Tanglewood Festival with Seiji Ozawa, and was subsequently nominated for the prestigious Rolex/Mentor Protégé Arts Initiative in Geneva, under Sir Colin Davis. In 2006 he was awarded a prestigious Clore Fellowship, a programme designed to nurture new generations of cultural leaders, and in 2007, he was elected the youngest Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Corporate Sponsorship The Orchestra receives a small grant from Imperial College Union, but is reliant on the generosity of both private and corporate benefactors to continue its operations. Corporate Sponsorship provides an opportunity for interested companies not only to support the music-making community at Imperial, but also to engage with some of the brightest students in the country. Concerts generally attract audiences of up to 1000, providing an excellent platform for delivery of sponsor companies’ corporate brands. Audiences mainly consist of Imperial Students, Imperial College donors and Orchestra Patrons, but our external concerts also attract members of general public with an interest in classical music. The Orchestra can offer varying sizes of programme adverts and branded tickets, as well as the potential for company presence in the form of banner adverts or stands at concerts. A number of complimentary tickets will also be provided to all concerts in the season. The Orchestra works with corporate sponsors to create bespoke sponsorship agreements, allowing companies to support all areas of the Orchestra’s activities and fulfill corporate social responsibility strategies.
