About the Sripat Singh College Sripat Singh College, established in 1949, is a college in Jiaganj, in Murshidabad district, in the state of West Bengal in India. It offers undergraduate courses in arts and sciences and postgraduate course in Bengali only. It is affiliated to University of Kalyani. Blessed be for ever the great name of Sripat Singh Dugar, the magnanimous Sitambar Jain of this town, who made his dream of establishing a college come true on August 1, 1949. The college was raised to Degree standard in 1951, in terms of Govt. rules. Sripat Singhji donated land adjacent to the building also donated beforehand. With his co-operation, much more land was purchased in 1958. In 1959 a large sum of financial assistance for building construction was available from U.G.C. and also from the W.B. Government. Academic activities were transferred here in August, 1961 and the ancestral out-house of Sripat Singhji, i.e. the old building of the college was named as the 'Administrative Building'. The motto of the college is 'Unity in diversity'. Theme of the Webinar Starting from the Vedas till globalized-Post-Modern Era, Sanskrit upholds the intellectual traditions for preserving knowledge and for supporting human life and society. The achievement of Contemporary Sanskrit Literature is being questioned by some critics. As a matter of fact, they are much less acquainted with the development of Sanskrit literature that grew after Panditraj Jagannatha. The latter half of the nineteenth century marks the beginning of a new era in Sanskrit literature. Many of the modern Sanskrit writings are qualitatively of such high order that they can easily be treated at par with the best of the works in other contemporary languages. It is also noted that more than 3000 Sanskrit works were composed in the period after Indian Independence (i.e., since 1947) alone. The enormous quantity of the creative Sanskrit works of last three centuries encompasses all forms of literature and variety of genres. In the present proposed International Webinar, an attempt will be made to discuss on different emerging trends of both content and style in Contemporary Sanskrit Literature.
