Exclusive Escape to Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly 13th - 17th September 2021 (4 nights) Join us to explore this beautiful corner of England and to discover its exceptional gardens. Thanks to the warmth of the Gulf Stream, these gardens are home to some of the most exotic and unusual plants and trees in the British Isles. We stay at the Carbis Bay Hotel overlooking its own 25-acre beach and hop over to the Isles of Scilly for the day to visit Tresco Abbey Gardens. Monday 13th September 2021 Our tour commences at the Carbis Bay Hotel near St Ives (with a pick up from St Erth railway station available in the morning). We meet in the hotel lobby just after lunch and set out for our first garden visit. Thisdramatic, 3-acre garden clings to the cliff edge, overlooking Lamorna Cove. Its impressive steps and terrace are home to many exotic plants and give delightful views towards the sea. We will meet the owners and hear about how they developed this unique plot. We return to the hotel for dinner (included). Tuesday 14th September 2021 This morning we head due east to the Roseland peninsula, crossing the River Fal by ferry. On arrival we visit a Mediter- ranean-style garden with an emphasis on water, which is ever present. The cupola that stands in the centre of the garden gives uninterrupted views to St Anthony’s headland and lighthouse and is inspired by the Amalfi coast. We have morning coffee and a tour with the owners. We then visit a well-known Cornish garden, Glendurgan where we are treated to a private lunch with Charles Fox, garden designer and artist, at his home within the gardens. Afterwards, he will take us on a guided tour of the gardens, to learn how the Fox family developed this and other gardens in the area. We return to the hotel where your evening is at leisure. Wednesday 15th September 2021 Today, we take a 20-minute flight from Land’s End to the Isles of Scilly, nestling just 35-miles off the coast of Cornwall. We then take a boat to Tresco for a guided garden tour of Tresco Abbey Gardens. The garden was established by Augustus Smith in the 19th century around the ruins of a Benedictine Abbey. Today, it is home to plants from more than 80 countries from Brazil to New Zealand and Burma to South Africa. There is time for lunch and a look around the island before returning to the mainland by boat and plane. This evening we enjoy dinner in the hotel (included). Thursday 16th September 2021 Today we see three diverse gardens starting with an ancient tel: 01423 396506 email: [email protected] www.sisley.co.uk 11 Cornish estate that has been farmed and settled for more than 700 years. The gardens have mostly been laid out in the last 20 years by the current owner and incorporate the 18th-century walled garden, a new water feature sited in a gravel and palm garden, rockery, herbaceous beds, and a series of yew ‘rooms’. Then we make our way to Bonython Estate. We meet the owner and garden creator for a stroll through the walled garden with colour-themed herbaceous borders, the traditional potager garden and through the parkland to a series of small lakes and streams in a sheltered valley. A light lunch (included) will be served in the garden. In the afternoon we visit a fascinating private garden which has been inspired by the classic English gardens. Created by an artist and architect, this garden boasts many features, such as a footbridge, pergola, fountain garden and many sculptures. We return to the hotel for our final-night dinner (included). Friday 17th September 2021 This morning is at leisure to enjoy the super facilities of the hotel and its private beach. These include the C Bay Spa with its treatment rooms, hydrotherapy pool, sauna pod and the heated outdoor swimming pool. You can walk the coastal path into the picturesque town of St Ives to visit the Tate St Ives or Hepworth Sculpture Garden. Final check-out time is 11am and there will be a transfer to St Erth station late morning. OUR HOTEL: The Carbis Bay Hotel & Spa, St Ives WHY CHOOSE SISLEY?
