FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEBRUARY 16, 2020 COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS PLACE RW CAM ATKINSON ON INJURED RESERVE AND RECALL RW KOLE SHERWOOD FROM AHL’S CLEVELAND MONSTERS COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed right wing Cam Atkinson on Injured Reserve retroactive to February 8 and recalled right wing Kole Sherwood from the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Atkinson, 30, is expected to miss two-to-three weeks after suffering an ankle injury vs. the Colorado Avalanche on February 8. The Riverside, Connecticut native has notched 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points with six penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in 44 games with the Blue Jackets this season. The Blue Jackets’ sixth round pick, 157th overall, at the 2008 NHL Draft has registered 198-170-368, 142 penalty minutes and a +33 plus/minus rating in 571 career NHL appearances. The two-time All-Star has scored 20 or more goals in each of the past six seasons. Sherwood, 23, has skated in five career NHL contests, including three in 2019-20 after making his season debut on November 2 vs. Calgary. The forward has recorded 24-12-36 with 123 penalty minutes in 92 career AHL games with the Monsters. He has 8-3-11 and ranks second-T on the team with 50 penalty minutes in 34 appearances in 2019-20. The New Albany, Ohio native was signed by the Blue Jackets to a three-year, entry level contract on July 7, 2015 and became the first player born in the Columbus-area to appear in a regular season game for the Blue Jackets when he made his NHL debut on February 16, 2019 at Chicago. The 6-1, 212-pound winger played three seasons with the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets organization from 2012-15 and went on to spend three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with London, Flint and Kitchener from 2015-18, tallying 75-104-179 and 169 penalty minutes in 180 career games. The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they visit the New Jersey Devils.
