Dave: Starting February 22nd, Good Shepherd Parish will be welcoming the Chaldean Catholic Community of New England in using our worship space. Bishop Reed asked if we could give them a place to worship. I spoke with the Finance Committee and the Parish Council, and both agreed this would be keeping with our parish goal of being a welcoming community. So once a month, they will celebrate their Chaldean rite liturgy in Saint Zepher- in’s church and have fellowship in the center. Folks will be coming from all over New England to attend this litur- gy. It is good to remember that there are 24 rites in the Catholic Church. The Latin or Roman rite makes up 98% of all Catholics worldwide. But, there are also 23 Eastern or Oriental churches that accept Pope Francis as their Pope. Some of the 23 rites are the following: Byzantine rite, Alexandrian rite, Syriac rite, Armenian rite, Maro- nite rite and Chaldean rite. The Chaldean rite liturgy is celebrated in Syrian, Aramaic and some Arabic languages. People who celebrate the Chaldean rite liturgy come from Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria and Jor- dan. Again, I am thrilled we as Good Shepherd Parish will be able to wel- come our fellow Catholics who were searching for a place to worship. Pax Christi, Fr.
