44 DIVISION III Baseball DIVISION III 2001 Championship Highlights Leave Hat Tricks to Hockey: St. Thomas (Minnesota) proved downright charming on its third straight try for a title by defeating Marietta, 8-4, May 29 in Grand Chute, Wisconsin. Brad Bonine's homer capped a three-run seventh that broke open a close game. He finished with a 1.000 tournament slugging percentage to lead the field. Bonine was 3-for-5 in the title game and drove in four runs. Dusty Childress had an RBI double and scored twice for Marietta, 48-9-1, while St. Thomas received two hits, two runs scored and two driven in from shortstop Matt Buzzell. The title is the ninth NCAA team championship for St. Thomas, but the first since women's basketball in 1991. All-Tournament Team: St. Thomas (Minnesota) outfielder Brad Bonine was named most out- standing player.
