MYRTÒ PAPATANASIU – Soprano Myrtò Papatanasiu’s magnificent voice and dazzling stage presence have established her as a unique international opera singer. Her Rusalka performance was reviewed by New York Times: “the penetrating soprano Myrtò Papatanasiu singing powerful high notes”. Born in Larissa, Greece, Myrtò Papatanasiu studied piano and music theory at the local Conservatory as well as musicology at the Aristotele University of Thessaloniki, before receiving her vocal performance diploma with distinction and first prize award from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. Being a recipient of the Megaron Athens Concert Hall grant, she completed her studies in Milano under the guidance of Roberto Coviello. She has since then established an extraordinary international career, performing regularly on the world’s most prestigious concert stages and opera houses, including Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris, Mostly Mozart Festival of New York, Theater an der Wien, Staatsoper of Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Opernhaus in Zürich, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, De Nederlandse Opera of Amsterdam, Edinburgh International Festival, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, New National Theatre of Tokyo, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Teatro Regio di Torino. She has worked with such conductors as Roberto Abbado, Fabrizio Maria Carminati, Adam Fischer, Ivan Fischer, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Alberto Zedda, and with directors as Daniele Abbado, Henning Brockhaus, Robert Carsen, Pier Luigi Pizzi and Franco Zeffirelli. Her repertory includes, among others, Don Giovanni (Donna Anna), Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi), Le nozze di Figaro (Contessa), Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Konstanze), Mitridate, re di Ponto (Sifare), La clemenza di Tito (Vitellia), La finta giardiniera (Sandrina) , Il matrimonio segreto (Carolina) by Cimarosa, Il Signor Bruschino (Sofia), La scala di seta (Giulia), Maometto II (Anna), Il turco in Italia (Fiorilla), Semiramide (title role), La traviata (Violetta), Falstaff (Alice), Rusalka (title role), Der Vampyr (Malwina), I Pagliacci (Nedda). She took part in important productions including La bohème (Musetta), which has marked her Metropolitan Opera House debut , Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira) at San Diego Opera, Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi) and Alcina (title role) at Opéra National de Paris, La traviata (Violetta) and Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) at Wiener Staatsoper, La traviata at Opéra de Montréal, Ginevra di Scozia (title role) with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Iphigénie en Aulide at Theater and der Wien, Rusalka (title role) at La Monnaie de Bruxelles, La traviata and Tosca at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. For her acclaimed US debut at Dallas Opera as Violetta in La traviata , she was honoured with the prestigious “Callas Debut Award 2012”. CD and DVD recordings include those of Don Giovanni (Opus Arte), Il Turco in Italia (Naxos), Ginevra di Scozia (Naxos), Beethoven’s Symphony N°9 (RCO Live), Don Giovanni (C Major); and most recently Semiramide (Dynamic), as well as Rusalka , a live video recording from the Théâtre de la Monnaie. In November 2016 Sony Classical has released the new, long-awaited Mozart’s Don Giovanni recording, in which she sings Donna Anna under the baton of Teodor Currentzis.
