Packington Estate Social Club The Summer sun has made a big difference this year and everyone has been spending more time in the garden or enjoying outdoor activities. Looking back a few months to April, we decided to have an Easter egg hunt in the Undercroft which proved very successful for the children that came. Lots of yummy eggs were found in the strangest of places. Nice to see residents entering into the spirit with unusual Easter Bonnets too ! Our quiz night and fish and chip supper in May was again a great success. The Undercroft was full, with lots of enthusiastic teams taking part in the quiz. In June, it was rubber gloves and mop buckets at the ready as Social club committee members completed the annual spring clean. We now have a sofa and coffee table for those who want to sit away from the bar area. We also have plans to start serving coffee if you prefer a hot drink. We were so fortunate with the weather in July for the Summer cricket match. The sun shone down as the 'farmers versus the estate' match took place. The estate managed to retain the trophy for a another year. After the match everyone piled into the Undercroft for a well deserved drink and who could forget the fabulous pork and stuffing rolls. A big thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the afternoon and evening such a huge success. The social club is open on the last Friday of every month so please support us. We will be arranging lots more events and will be planning another 'family night at the dogs' in November for those who are interested. Remember - everyone is welcome and all profits go to charity so please bring your friends and family and enjoy a night with us. i. A Wonderful Fundraising Effort My name is Jasmine Burchel! and I am 7 years old. I live on Packington estate. Last year I heard about a charity called The Little Princess Trust. They raise money to pay for wigs for children who have lost their own hair through illnesses like cancer. I thought it was sad that some children are so poorly and decided to have my long hair cut short to be made into a wig for a little girl who is very poorly. I told my friend Daisy and she decided to have her hair cut too. !t costs f350 to make each wig so we declded to try to raise enough money to have a wig made To raise the money we held a raffle at school and asked people to sponsor us. My dad, John, had a charity fishing rnatch at Packington for us and my mums friends at work grew silly moustaches and got sponsors (the ladies wore fake moustaches too!). We held a fun day at Meriden Schoolwhere we had lots of raffles, tombolas, cake stalls etc and this is where Daisy and I had our hair cut. We started off hoping to raise f350 but we think we did really wel! as we ended up raising .... f10089.55!!! Not bad for two little girls! Thank you to everyone that sponsored us and came along to our events. Once best practice is developed in North Warwickshire we will be spreading the initiative throughout the County. With this in mind we are going to have a property marking initiative in each of my parishes and if necessary going to those unable to get to us. By making your property identifiable to your premises it becomes less desirable to thieves who find it more difficult to dispose of and easier for us to deal with them positively when caught or just stopped in routine checks. I will be letting you know when we plan to do this at Packington and please bring what you can to us. I reiterate if you think something is suspicious then it probably is so please report all incidents, I can’t do anything about problems I know nothing about. WPC 86 Ellen Beaty Rural & Horsewatch Bulletin – 23 July 2014 Please be aware of the following incidents, which have occurred at rural premises across Warwickshire over recent days: Incident 292 of 18 July – Curdworth Between 11.30am on 17 and 5.10pm on 18 July, offenders forced open a ground floor stable door at a farm premises in Curdworth and entered the property.
