Norrman SIGNIFICANCE (-ARCHITECTURAL .AND HISTORICAL, INCLUDE ORIGINAL USE OF STRUCTURE) One of earliest buildings of the Atlanta University, which is one of the oldest and most influential universities for blacks in America. Also, one of the rare examples of the work of architect Norrman. Because of tower and elevated location, has become a landmark of the centra district of the city. A National Historic Landmark. Originally used as administrative building STYLE (IF APPROPRIATE) MATERIAL OF CONSTRUCTION (INCLUDE STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS) Brick; stone trim SHAPE AND DIMENSIONS OF STRUCTURE (SKETCHED FLOOR PLANS ON SEPARATE PAGES ARE ACCEPTABLE) 3^>tory; T-shaped; hipped roof on main block, gable roof on rear extension; 5 double bay front; ^^tage, pyramidal clock tower on roof. EXTERIOR FEATURES OF NOTE Central bay projected from facade, portions of other bays project on first or third stories; entrance inset in round arched opening; sides of tower pierced by arcaded openings; lintels and belt courses of stone; brick decorative detailing. INTERIOR FEATURES OF NOTE (DESCRIBE FLOOR PLANS, IF NOT SKETCHED) MAJOR ALTERATIONS AND ADDITIONS WITH DATES PRESENT CONDITION AND USE Condition as of 1974 nomination for National Landmark Status was listed as good.
