Presentation Gregory Cummings Chief Zone Officer North Zone Cindy Harmata Senior Operating Officer Rural East Allied & Seniors Health Programs (North Zone) North Zone Size: 448,500 km2 NZ is AHS’ largest geographic zone and most remote Fun fact: slightly bigger than Morocco (World’s 57th largest country) Hospitals: 34 Physicians: 624 Staff: 10,852 Volunteers: 1,648 North Zone Recent Snapshot New facilities • High Prairie Health Complex • Permanent dialysis unit in Lac La Biche • Wabasca-Desmarais EMS Station • AHS acquired the Good Samaritan Society Mountain View Centre in Hinton Facility upgrades • Westlock, Cold Lake & Smoky Lake heliports upgraded • Northern Lights Regional Health Centre • CT Scanner & MRI replaced • New heliport (opening TBD) North Zone Recent Snapshot New programs and enhancements • Youth Day Program in Grande Prairie • Street Connect in Fort McMurray • Opioid Dependency Program in Bonnyville and High Prairie • Public Health Clinic added in Janvier, and additional clinics added in Red Water • Enhance care in the community resources led to expansion in mental health and home care services Increase in physicians in AHS’ North Zone – 27 in 12 months And an additional 12 have signed return to service agreements or accepted job offer letters Looking ahead for the Zone… • Addition of midwifery services to North Zone communities • Connect Care • Improving access to continuing care facilities • Improving Indigenous health services, and ensuring AHS staff have cultural awareness training • Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (opening TBD) • Continued work in enhancing care in the community Area Successes • Addition of new supportive living residences in Boyle, Lac La Biche and Smoky Lake • Enhancing Care in the Community added new resources to Home Care and Mental Health teams • Increased access to addiction and mental health children’ services • CT scanning suite in Lac La Biche (2020) • Expanded hours for CT scanner in Cold Lake (24/7) • A number of security upgrades to facilities in the area (Athabasca, St. Paul, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche) Area Challenges • Meeting demands for addiction and mental health needs • Obstetrical demands • Physician recruitment • Transportation InWhat Edmonton is the Zone Health Plan?
