Some appearances were on behalf of all Republican candidates and some appearances were on behalf of specific candidates. On September 19, he appeared on behalf of Representative Stan Parris in Alexandria, Virginia. Parris was defeated. ·~ 01} October 7, he attended a Salute to George Aiken Dinner in Burlington, Ve'ri.nont,which was also a state fund raiser. The President spoke in support of all statewide and Congressional rac~s. On October 9, he appeared in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on behalf of Senator Richard Schweiker,who wo~ his bid for reelection, and Drew Lewis, who lost his bid{for the Governor's chair. On October 10, he appeared in Detroit, Michigan for Governor Bill Milliken at a fund raising dinner. Gov. l\4-illiken was reelected. On Octobe1~ 16.~~ he appeared in Kansas City, Missouri on behalf of Tom Curtis, who lost his bid for election to the U.S. Senate. On October 16, he appeared in Sioux Falls~ South Dakota on behalf of Leo Thorsness, who lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. The President also spoke in support of John Olson for Governor and for two individuals running for Congress. On October 16, he appeared in Lincoln.~~ Nebraska in support of Charles Thone,who was reelected to his seat in Congress. The President also spoke in support of the candidates for Governor and other House seats. On October 16, he appeared in Indianapolis, Indiana on behalf of Richard Lugar, who lost his race for the U.S. Senate. The President also spoke in support of those seeking election or reelection to the House of Representatives. • -2- - On October 19, the President campaigned in Greenville-Spartanburg, Anderson and Rock Hill, South Carolina for Len Phillips and Marshall Parker, who both lost their bids for Congressional seats. He alsQ spoke in support of Jim Edwards, who won the Governor 1 s chair, and Jim Watkins, who lost his race for Congress. On October 19, the President appeared in Greensboro, North Carolina on behalf of Bill Stevens, who lost his race for the U.S. Senate,and also supported other candidates seeking seats in the House of Representatives. On October 19, the President appeared .in support of Marlowe Cook in Louisville, Kentucky. He also spoke in support of Congressional candi­ dates. Senator Cook was defeated. On October 22, the President appeared in Oklahoma City in support of Henry Bellmon,who won his race for the U.S. Senate. He also spoke in support of the candidates for Governor and for Congressional candidates. ~,.. ~· .... On October 22, he appeared in Cleveland, Ohio on behalf of Ralph Perk who lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. The President also spoke in support of the candidates for Governor and for House candidates. On October 24, the President appeared in Des Moines, Iowa at a statewide fund raiser and also on behalf of Dave Stanley, who lost his bid for the U.S. Senate, and for Bob Ray,who won the Governor's chair. The President also spoke in support of several House candidates. On October 24, he appeared in Melvin, Illinois at a rally in ho'nor of Les Arends who is retiring. The President spoke in support of the Senate candidate and individuals running for Congressional seats. On October 24, he attended a statewide fund raising dinner for Republican candidates in Chicago, Illinois and also in support of George Burditt who lost his bid for the U. S. Sem te. On October 29, the President appeared in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in support of Paul Goebel,who lost his bid to regain the seat formerly held by President Ford. On October 31, the President appeared at Sioux City, Iowa in support of Wiley Mayne,who lost his bid for reelection. He also spoke in support of other candidates. On October 31, the President appeared in Los Angeles, California on behalf of Houston Fluornoy,who-lost his bid for the Governor 1 s chair. He also spoke in support of other state and federal candidates. -3- •• - On November 1, the President appeared in Fresno. California on behalf of Bob Mathias, who lost his bid for reelection. He also spoke in support of other candidates. On November 1, the President appeared in Portland, Oregon on behalf of Senator Bob Packwood. who was reelected, and Vic Atiyeh, who lost his bid for the Governor's chair. The President also spoke in support of other candidates. On November 2, the President appeared in Salt Lake City, Utah on behalf of Jake Garn, who was elected to the U. S. Senate, and Steve Harmsen. who was defeated in his bid for the Congressional seat. On November 2, he appeared in Grand Junction, Colorado on behalf of Senator Peter Dominick, who lost his bid for reelection, and John Vanderhoof, who lost his bid for the Governor's chair.
