FEBRUARY JAZZ @ SYC 22 Ossining, New York MARSHALL MCDONALD JAZZ PROJECT The Marshall McDonald Jazz Project will roll into SYC featuring 30 year veteran of the NY Jazz Scene, McDonald— best recognized for his over 20 year association with The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra-- including the latest Grammy nominated recording All About That Basie, and the soon to be released recording, Basie Live the Apollo: Ella 100. Marshall has also enjoyed a 10-year stint with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra. Joining McDonald will be some of New York’s finest! David Childs on piano, (who has performed with Jimmy Heath, Dick Oatts, and Eddie Bert). Legendary bassist Harvie S, who will rock the bottom (and has performed and recorded with Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Tony Bennett, Ray Baretto, Michael Brecker, Jean Pierre Rampal, Paquito D’Rivera, Gil Evans, Art Farmer, Mark Turner, Pat Metheny, to name a few). On the drums, Tony Jefferson, a fixture on the New York scene for many years, (and has performed and recorded with Eddie Harris, Lonnie Smith, Eddie Henderson, Lou Donaldson, Frank Wess, Cyrus Chestnut, Jerry Bergonzi, Joey Calderazzo, Freddy Cole, Hank Jones, Benny Golson, and Cedar Walton just to name a few). McDonald, nick-named “The Sound” by his friends, wants people to feel the joy and beauty of jazz music. Marshall owns a beautiful, warm tone, that he hopes will touch people’s hearts. “Music should move the soul. It’s the universal language.”, he says.
