TWENTY-THIRD JUDICIAL CIRCUIT JUDICIAL OFFICE • DEKALB COUNTY COURTHOUSE DEKALB COUNTY COURTHOUSE PART-TIME BAILIFF JOB DESCRIPTION The primary responsibilities of the Bailiff are to maintain order and decorum in the courtroom, and to ensure that all orders from the bench are carried out. Additionally, there are numerous less, but essential tasks that a Bailiff must perform. Bailiffs are to be neat in appearance and pleasant in demeanor. His or her conduct should be dignified, courteous, cooperative and diligent. Bailiffs should assist the judges, and court security as needed, and should be helpful and informative to jurors, witnesses, litigants, attorneys and the public. Bailiffs should never give legal advice or discuss the merits of any case, with members of the public, with attorneys, and most importantly, jurors. 1. Bailiffs that are hired as part-time bailiffs will be paid hourly at the rate to be set by the Presiding Judge. That rate as $11.00 per hour. 2. Newly hired bailiffs are subject to the 1,000 hour limit. The only exception is if they have worked for the County before, they would be grandfathered into the 600 hour limit. 3. Part-time Bailiffs may be required to work mornings, afternoons, or evenings depending on the court schedule.
