Although the Study Abroad Office cannot provide any financial aid for the programmes listed below, we’d like to hear from students who are applying and can provide assistance to you during the application procedure. German Language and Culture: Universität Bonn, Germany, 2 - 25 August 2017 The course offers participants from all over the world the opportunity to learn German from beginner level to advanced level. Class sizes are small (maximum 15 participants) and excursions and activities are also included in the programme such as wine tasting, city sightseeing and a boat trip. The programme fee is 750€ and accommodation costs 308€. Further details can be found on the summer course website. Summer School: Università Di Bologna, 19 – 30 June, 3 - 21 July 2017 or 19 June – 21 July 2017 The University offers an Italian Language and Culture Summer School, where language tuition is combined with a programme of cultural trips and activities. Choose from a two-week intensive course for beginners (450€); a three-week course for beginners, intermediate or advanced (650€) or a combination of both courses (1000€), for a total duration of five weeks. Accommodation costs extra and varies according to duration of the programme and type of accommodation. Further details can be found on the summer school website. VU Amsterdam Summer School: VU University, block one: 8 – 22 July, block two: 22 July – 5 August, block three: 5 – 19 August or two or three blocks combined (study one module per block) The Amsterdam summer school offers modules from a wide range of fields, varying from Arts & Humanities to Human Health & Life Sciences and everything in between. The modules are multi-disciplinary and include excursions that are related to the course content. The tuition fees range from 1,000 – 1,150€ per module. As VU is a partner university of Leeds you are entitled to a €250 discount from the tuition. Accommodation costs 450€ or 545€ per block. Please visit the VU summer school website for more information. Summer School: Université Paris Diderot, 3 - 21 July 2017 The Summer School is a three week French language and culture programme. The programme includes three hours of French language tuition each morning and the afternoons are made up of tours and visits to various attractions and sights in Paris. Also included in the programme are two visits to other destinations in France. Students with all levels of French are welcome to apply, including beginners. The programme fee is 2,500€ and this includes tuition and accommodation. Further details can be found on the summer school website. Intensive Spanish Programme: Universidad De San Andrés, Buenos Aires, 4 – 31 July 2017 This four-week programme is oriented to students at intermediate level who want to improve their Spanish while enjoying the culture and dynamism offered by Buenos Aires. The programme curriculum is complemented with frequent excursions and activities aimed at experiencing the living language of porteños (residents of Buenos Aires). Summer UG Research Programme: Chinese University of Hong Kong, 26 June – 18 August 2017 This programme enables students to develop research skills and knowledge. You will conduct a research project under the supervision of a CUHK faculty member for 8 or 10 weeks. This year 80 research projects will be offered in various academic disciplines, including Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science and Social Science. Students who secure a place on SURP will not be charged a tuition fee. The administrative fee and accommodation fee is $8,580 HKD. See the programme website for more details. Intensive Chinese Language: Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), China, available as a two week, four week or six week programme, with rolling start dates from 3 July – 11 August 2017 Whether you're an absolute beginner or more advanced, this programme will give you every opportunity to immerse yourself in Chinese, and to develop your abilities in this increasingly global language. The tuition for the two week course costs 3,700 CNY and accommodation costs approximately 108 CNY per day. Applicants from Leeds are entitled to a 15% discount on the cost of tuition. Summer Opportunities 2017 Independent Applicants Below you will find details of the summer programmes which are listed on the ‘subsidised’ pages of our website who also accept independent applications from full fee-paying (non exchange) students. AU Summer University: Aarhus University, Term 1:1 from 3 July to 21 July 2017 or Term 2: from 24 July to 11 August 2017. Start dates and duration vary by course. The programme consists of courses, taught in English from a range of subject areas: Business Economics and Management, Communication, Culture and Society, Health, Law, Psychology, Science and Technology. Fees vary according to subject area; they range from 27 – 120€ per ECTS credits (modules are 5 or 10 ECTS). Aarhus University estimates 427€ for housing. Berlin International Summer School: Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL), 25 June – 22 July 2017 or 2 – 22 July (depending on course chosen) There are business and law courses (taught in English) on offer as well as German language. Programme fees (including tuition and accommodation) range from 1,270 – 1,850€ depending on the course. More information can be found on the BSEL website. International Summer Campus (ISC): Korea University, 26 June - 3 August 2017 KU’s international summer campus offers a huge range of modules taught in English, including Korean culture as well as the opportunity to study Korean language. Tuition costs 1,700,000 – 3,800,000 KRW depending on how many courses you study. Accommodation costs 764,000 - 1,170,000 KRW. More information can be found on the ISC website. International Summer Session (ISS): Fudan University, China, 7 July – 4 August 2017 The International Summer Session at Fudan, Shanghai provides a study and cultural experience to students from all over the world. There are 18 content courses, three Chinese language courses at different levels and two Physical Education courses on offer. In addition historical and cultural visits are offered. The application and tuition fee is 14,200 CNY. Accommodation costs 100 CNY per day. More information can be found on the ISS website. Subsidised opportunities in China There are subsidised opportunities in China which are run by the British Council as part of the Generation UK – China scheme. The scheme was launched by the British Council in 2013. By 2020, it aims to help 80,000 students from the UK boost their employability, enhance their long-term job prospects, and develop a global mind-set through study and work experience opportunities in China. Apply for a two-month internship placement in China, or if you want to study abroad after your degree they also offer study scholarships for between 5 -11 months of study, in various locations across China, and in a combination of different subjects. You may also wish to consider applying to the Study China programme, a scholarship programme funded by the UK government and administered by the University of Manchester (open to all UK students). They offer subsidised study abroad programmes in China usually over summer. Please see the Study China website for more details and for updates on when the summer application period will open. 2 .
