LOS ANGELES - Another light week awaits the Golden Coast Conference as the season wraps up the first month of play. Only four teams were in 2015 GCC Coaches’ Poll: action last week and five will hit the pool this week. 1. Pacific - 43 points (3 first place votes) LMU - 43 points (2) Pacific, who is ranked 12th in the latest national poll, will play a pair 3. San Diego St. - 41points (3) of ranked teams in No. 5 Cal and 24th-ranked CSU Bakersfield at the 4. California Baptist - 32 points UC Davis Aggie Shootout. Azusa Pacific will play four games, including 5. Santa Clara - 25 points 21st-ranked Long Beach State. Meanwhile, Fresno Pacific will travel to 6. The RV Iona College NR 1 two-meter star also collected five steals and added one assist over the course of the RV Santa Clara University RV 1 tournament. Evans helped the Lancers to two wins against Iona College and Villanova. RV Sonoma State University NR 1 In CBU’s 14-12 win over Iona, Evans bagged five crucial goals to seal the win. RV CSU East Bay 25 (T) 1 LMU, who is ranked 14th in the national poll, finished the Triton Invitational in seventh 2016 GCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK place thanks to wins over No. 18 SDSU and No. 11 UC Santa Barbara. The Lions also fell to No. 1 team in the national for the second straight week, this time UCLA, as well Feb. 3 Karolina Hlavata Pacific as ninth-ranked UC Irvine. They have now played eight straight games against the top- Feb. 10 Erica Marquez 20 teams in the country. Azusa Pacific Feb. 17 Hannah Evans Leading the way was freshman goalie Sky Flores with 27 saves and four steals. Fellow California Baptist freshman Hana Vilanova added six goals and four assists. Senior Bridgette Alvarez Feb. 24 anchored the Lions offense in the middle, scoring eight goals with 12 ejections drawn. Mar. 2 Alvarez is third on the team in goals with 13 while Vilanova is second on the team in total points with 22, scoring 15 goals and seven assists. Ivana Castro leads the Lions Mar. 9 with 16 goals and 10 assists, good for 26 points. Mar. 16 For San Diego State, senior driver Nikole Ferrari had three goals, a team-high eight Mar. 23 assists and a team-high nine steals, while drawing two ejections and field blocking a team-high three shots at the Triton Invitational. She assisted on a team-high two goals Mar. 30 and had two steals against LMU. She added a team-high-tying two goals in the win over Sonoma State, with one assist and a team-high four steals. She was responsible Apr. 6 for four goals (1 goal, 3 assists) and two steals in the 8-7 win over Long Beach State, Apr. 13 adding a team-high two assists and one steal vs. Indiana. They finished ninth at the Triton Invitational. Apr. 20 The Aztecs, LMU and CBU are all bye this week.
