The Arteon does not follow an archetype or trend – it is the face in the crowd. Volkswagen is now launching a major update of this progressive business class model. And as a parallel highlight, a second body version: the new Arteon Shooting Brake – an avant-garde all-rounder that represents a completely new interpretation of the estate More at volkswagen-newsroom.com car by Volkswagen. Presales of both versions are already underway in © Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake / Volkswagen / October 2020 Page 3 Europe; the new Arteon models will arrive in Volkswagen dealerships at the beginning of November. Both Arteon versions will also be available with a plug-in hybrid drive for the first time before the end of 2020. In the new Arteon eHybrid and Arteon Shooting Brake eHybrid, the combination of electric drive motor and turbocharged petrol engine develops a system power of 160 kW (218 PS). The two plug-in hybrid models can be driven up to 59 kilometres (Fastback) and 57 kilometres (Shooting Brake), purely electrically and thus with zero local emissions; on long journeys, the electric drive motor also reduces the consumption of the TSI engine. With their electric range, the plug-in hybrid models are ideal for the typical usage patterns of today’s car drivers. Taking Germany as an example: according to a study10 published by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, 95 percent of all daily car journeys are shorter than 50 kilometres. This means that the majority of all trips in the most populous country in Europe can be covered with purely electric power with the eHybrid versions of the Arteon. Thanks to the additional electric power, the new Arteon eHybrid models also have a boost function that makes overtaking easier and further improves driving dynamics. TDI and TSI available at market launch, R model from 2021. The turbodiesel versions (TDI) with 110 kW (150 PS) and 147 kW (200 PS) that are particularly popular with company car drivers and fleet operators are already available to order. The 200 PS version can be optionally combined with the 4MOTION all-wheel drive. On the engine side, two turbocharged petrol engines (TSI) with 140 kW (190 PS) and 206 kW (280 PS) will follow before the end of the year. Planned for spring 2021: the Arteon R and Arteon Shooting Brake R with a Performance TSI engine delivering 235 kW (320 PS)7. All Arteon versions sold in Germany will have an automatic dual clutch gearbox (DSG) on board. A TSI with 110 kW (150 PS)11 and manual transmission will also be available in various markets outside Germany. © Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake / Volkswagen / October 2020 Page 4 Exterior design defines new, avant-garde style Expressive, dynamic Shooting Brake. The Arteon has established a new, avant-garde style in the business class. Volkswagen is now continuing on this expressive path with the new Arteon Shooting Brake. Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars: “The Arteon Shooting Brake offers additional space for a life in forward motion. It has been designed for all those car drivers that value individual style and innovative technologies just as much as ideal functionality and variability.” There has never been a Volkswagen like this before. Klaus Zyciora, Head of the Volkswagen Group Design department: “The Arteon Shooting Brake is the fusion of the progressive dynamics of a Gran Turismo with the multi- variable concept of an estate car – interpreted in a completely new and extremely expressive way.” The new Arteon Shooting Brake has a unique design to the rear from the B-pillars onwards. Marco Pavone, Head of Volkswagen Exterior Design: “We have significantly pulled in the roof section and with it the side glass panels towards the rear. In contrast, the wheel housings have been widened to give the Shooting Brake a very powerful shoulder section. This creates the impression of a sports car despite the functionality of a five-door car.” Design update also for the fastback version. All Arteon models are characterised by a sharpened front end design. The face in the crowd has thus become even more distinctive. For the first time, both body versions can also be configured with new LED daytime running lights. Here, the LED strips are not only integrated below the standard LED headlights but also optionally in the centre of the radiator grille. Consequently, the Arteon has been given a new and unmistakeable daytime and night-time signature. The LED tail light clusters extending into the boot lid have also been newly developed. © Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake / Volkswagen / October 2020 Page 5 New and exclusive interior, elegant materials, new air conditioning controls Digital Cockpit Pro as standard. In the interior, the Arteon models have been equipped with a completely newly designed cockpit that has been consistently adapted to charisma and exclusive character of the product line. The design as well as the materials and their haptics – no matter whether wood, metal, leather or plastics – all take a large step in the direction of the Volkswagen flagship, the Touareg. Always standard: Digital Cockpit Pro (fully digital instruments). Operation of the automatic air conditioner is also perfected for the first time by illuminated touch slider controls. The multifunction steering wheel with its digital touch controls is another new development. The other new equipment includes a 700-watt high-end Harman Kardon sound system, which was developed especially for the Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake. Background lighting that can be adjusted in up to 30 colours is also optionally available to give the new interior an attractive finishing touch.
