I live in Corsely and have done since 1994! Erecting an industrial sized wind turbine so close to the village (and all of the surrounding villages) will majorly degrade the surrounding countryside. I am a big supporter of renewable/ alternative energy sources and the need to research and develop them. However based on my studies at university into the most efficient renewable sources and my own understanding of the damage these turbines cause to the local ecosystems, on top of our own enjoyment of the countryside, I have no doubt that this application will cause more damage than it is worth. The countryside around Corsley is beautiful; the wind turbine would ruin this for a lot of people. We regularly enjoy walking through the fields and the hills and this experience will undoubtedly be worsened as a result of the wind turbine. One consideration is Cley Hill. Being close to Longleat and Centre Parks Cley Hill see’s tens of thousands of visitors a year, who have come to this part of the country to enjoy the countryside. Climbing up a fairly large hill like Cley Hill is usually rewarded by a glorious view at the top. This proposed Wind Turbine will take the innocence and tranquillity out of what is at the moment, a truly awesome panoramic view, unspoilt by such vast industrial constructions. I ask you to consider the amount of people who will suffer as a result of the wind turbine, ranging from locals being exposed to health risks and the devaluation of their assets, to visitors and a tourist travelling to area only to find it isn’t the charming untouched British countryside that it used to be. Now consider the amount of people who will benefit from the wind turbine, it won’t take long, it goes as far as the owner of the farm , and the company who is in charge of developing the site. As the farm owner doesn’t even live nearby, it appears the few people who reap the financial benefits (largely provided by the taxpayer) of the wind turbine, conveniently avoid all of the horrible effects that it imposes on the countryside. I have put forth the effects the wind turbine will have on the villagers and visitors to the area. But please also consider the effect on the environment. We currently have a vibrant bird population in the fields surrounding our house and obviously in the wooded areas especially. I regularly see buzzards, and have seen Sparrow Hawks and Red Kites, these birds will undoubtedly be put at risk if the turbine gets erected, and that isn’t right and shouldn’t be allowed! The best way to understand this letter, and the many other’s that are being sent, it is to go to a place in the countryside that you are fond of, that you have special memories of, that holds significant sentimental value to you. Walk through it, enjoy it, embrace it, admire the views, admire the wildlife. Then imagine a huge, loud, ugly wind turbine, towering over that peaceful landscape, RUINING IT FOREVER.
