With a purpose of providing the knowledge, care and passion, necessary for every child to aspire to their individual potential, Berea City Schools’ academic program is anchored in excellence. 2013 Berea-Midpark (BMHS) College Admission Profile . 14 College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Offerings: 389 AP tests were taken . 71% scored a “3” or higher on an AP Exam . 112 students participate in Dual Credit Course options where students receive both high school and college credit. 2012 -2014 Number of National Merit Finalists - 3, Semi-Finalists - 9, Commended Scholars - 13 for the past three years. 2014 SAT for the past three years – Reading: 522, Math: 546, Writing: 505 . 2013 ACT– Composite: 22.2, English: 21.4, Math: 22.2, Reading: 22.3, Science: 22.5 . 20 students participated in the Cleveland Clinic’s eXpressions™ Program which is an interdisciplinary program that uses art, written communication, and math to engage high school students in the world. 20% of the projects receiving awards were achieved by Berea City School students. 142 students were enrolled in 661 Post-Secondary Option courses. 64 Berea-Midpark students inducted into the National Honor Society . World languages offered - Spanish, French, German, and Chinese . 447 students participate in Project Lead the Way in Biomedical and Engineering Program at Berea-Midpark High School (BMHS) and Middleburg Heights Junior High (MHJH). 7 MHJH courses offered for high school credit in grades 7 and 8 – Algebra 1, Geometry, Physical Science, Spanish, French, German, and Chinese. Flat Connection Project – Elementary to high school students participate in global projects to learn from and with each other. It is about connection, collaboration and co-construction. It includes technology infused challenge- based and project-based experiences across the globe through personalized approaches to learning for all. 3 BEREA CITY SCHOOLS QUALITY PROFILE . Berea City School District earned the Top AFS School award, for their commitment to enhancing global education. Berea City School’s offers self-contained gifted classes through the ASPIRE Program for students in grades 2-4. 40 students from Ford Intermediate and Middleburg Heights Junior High participate in the Junior Model United Nations Conference sponsored by the Cleveland Council of World Affairs. Ten students received honors recognition and one student received the GAVEL Award which is the highest award one can obtain. Comprehensive K – 12 Library Program - School library programs continue to undergo momentous changes that have heightened the importance of technology and evidence-based learning. The focus has moved from the library as a confined place to one with fluid boundaries that is layered by diverse needs and influenced by an interactive global community. Driven by a passion to inspire creativity and enhance learning, Berea City Schools is committed to providing a strong visual and performing arts experiences throughout the school district. Music - The Berea City School District provides a music program for all children beginning in kindergarten through high school. The music program includes both general music and performance music. The performance music program includes a variety of offerings in band, orchestra and choir. Students may begin instrumental music lessons on string instruments in fifth grade. Electives at the high school include Orchestra, Concert Choirs, Show 4 BEREA CITY SCHOOLS QUALITY PROFILE Choir, Marching Band, Concert Bands/Wind Ensembles, Jazz Band, and Music Technology/Theory. In its 14th year, the NAMM Foundation has once again recognized the Berea City School District for its outstanding commitment to music education with a Best Communities for Music Education designation. The Berea City School District has been consistently ranked in the top in the nation for music education. 2013-2014 – State qualifications in Marching Band, Orchestra and Choir. Ohio Music Education Association District Competition Berea-Midpark Symphonic Band – Excellent Rating in Class B Berea-Midpark Symphonic Winds - Superior Ratings in Class AA Berea-Midpark Symphonic and Solo – Choir – Superior and Excellent Ratings . Visual Arts - The Berea City School District visual arts program begins in kindergarten and extends through high school. At the elementary, intermediate and junior high school levels, the students are encouraged to experience a range of art materials, tools, and techniques as well as subject matter, themes and ideas that can shape their art and inform their understanding of the world. High school courses offered include Painting/Drawing, Commercial Art, Ceramics, Photography, Art Exploration and Visual Effects and Design (TITANFX). We also provide independent studies for students who are unable to meet during scheduled class periods, in a variety of artistic disciplines, including fashion design. Berea-Midpark High School is also home to TITANFX, the only high school program of its kind in the country. TITANFX introduces students to the skills, materials and techniques associated with the movie and entertainment industries. Berea City School District’s Annual District Art Show presents over 300 student original pieces of art work. Middleburg Heights Junior High School’s Deaf Community Art Show . Berea-Midpark High School’s Performing Arts production, “South Pacific” . MHJH Drama Club’s original production, “The Boarding House” . BCSD musicals and plays are held across the district at our elementary and intermediate. Focused on preparing students to be college and career ready, Berea City Schools is intentional about students serving in the community and equipping leaders for the 21st century. Striking a balance in developing the whole child, Berea City Schools recognizes the important role extracurricular activities play in the development of our students. Our extracurricular programs are a vibrant and vital part of the total Berea educational experience. 468 students were enrolled in American Government and participate in Citizenship Participatory Project (CPP). Student Government opportunities at each building focus on civic responsibility and service. Over 95 high school students participate Camp Mi-Bro-Be. 7 High School Students participate in C.L.O.S.E. as student teacher leaders . 100% of our elementary programs participate in a positive impact program, Bucket Fillers. 517 students participate in Varsity Teams and 447 students participate in JV/freshman teams Southwestern Conference Boys Basketball Champions Southwestern Conference Girls Basketball Champions Southwestern Conference Boys Track Champions Southwestern Conference Boys Soccer Champions . Received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the CAFR from the Government Finance Officer Association (GFOA), for twenty-one consecutive years. Grindstone Elementary School achieved a Gold Level Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council in the LEED Green Rating System and verified by the Green Building Certification
