Corporate philosophy and management policies NIKKEN GROUP POLICY Contributing to society through valuable work In turn, helping individuals to grow and thrive and companies to continue developing 1 Management Policies and company overview Constantly pursuing self-revitalization and individuality as a member of the NIKKEN Group, aiming for sustainable development through valuable work contributing to communities NIKKEN SEKKEI's civil engineering division traces its roots to 1919, when the Osaka Hokko Wharf Company was established to renovate Osaka North Port and develop the surrounding area in what is called a private finance initiative (PFI) today. Since then, the company has enjoyed robust growth in tandem with the Japanese rapid economic growth, expanding its business scope and track record mainly in industrial infrastructure and development projects in the private sector, railway and social infrastructure development, and architectural cooperation for the planning and design of urban spaces and facilities. The company has long maintained a strong commitment to accumulating proprietary technologies. NIKKEN SEKKEI CIVIL ENGINEERING (NSC) is a consultant group that helps create "environmentally symbiotic cities" and "sustainable communities" through planning, design and supervision in urban development, urban environments, urban facilities, production facilities and geotechnical engineering as a member of the NIKKEN Group. We furnish comprehensive, high-quality services in urban and regional development, development around train stations and in underground spaces, urban infrastructure and industrial facilities, and cutting-edge research facilities based on our foundations in civil engineering, and fuse these services for architectural planning. As is well known, changes in the business climate have been faster than expected in the 21st century. In response, NSC has promoted ongoing structural reform since 2005 in an effort to further bolster its business foundations. We are stepping up cooperation and collaboration with NIKKEN Group companies and evolving into a distinctive group of engineers that is capable of preempting the needs of society and the changing times through "individuality" and "branding". Through restructuring since 2005, NSC has rejuvenated and expanded operations in core fields, including planning and design for urban infrastructure and foundation design for steel and other plants. In 2006, NSC integrated geotechnical engineering fields by merging Nikken Soil Research and Nikken Sekkei Soil Research Institute, forging greater capabilities in this fields that are important for overseas design. NSC has actively expanded overseas operations since 2007, engaging in urban development projects and urban space and facilities design mainly in China, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia and Southeast Asia. In 2017, NSC was reorganized into five major divisions: Business Administration Division;Business Development Division; Urban Development Division; Industrial Facilities Division; Urban Infrastructure & Engineering Division. Divisions operate independently and collaborate with each other, assembling the best possible project teams for individual projects. We are making unified efforts to meet client needs at the highest level. Transportation-oriented development (TOD) in which units are linked with each other by public transportation networks have been proposed. In the heart of the city, a space named "forests of knowledge" is created that integrate libraries, music halls, museums, convention centers and other cultural facilities. It enhances cultural exchange in the region. "Forests of knowledge" functions as cool spots that cool urban areas with transpiration effect of trees. The chilled air is devised to circulate around the whole city through a green network. Vinh Phuc University City planning in Vietnam: Idea competition Organizer : Vietnam Association of Architects , Location : Vinh Phuc Province in Vietnam Site area : 2,040ha , Planned population : Roughly160,000 people , Function : Universities, teacher housing, student dormitories, city service facilities Vientiane Province, Central-city detailed planning Detailed planning for Phu My 3 industrial park Location: Vientiane Province, Laos, Location: Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, Vietnam, development area: Roughly 2,450ha development area: 1,000ha Master plan of DinhVu-CutHai Industrial District in Hai Phong In creating city master plans, we aim to realize healthy and orderly development for cities. Future visions of cities are clearly defined. Plans entail adapting land use to socio-economic changes and creating overall plans that encompass planned infrastructure development. In particular, amid significant changes in the global environment, the focus is on the environment and disaster prevention. We propose safe and secure urban developments that will consistently maintain these attributes. For urban development planning and design, the characteristics of the planned area are carefully analyzed, and urban developments with individual characteristics are proposed with the aim of creating more highly valued amenities in the area. Urban planning for Vientiane Talon district Location: Laos, development area: Roughly 2,200ha 3 Park and landscape design Gunma Rehabilitation Park Gunma Rehabilitation Park is a river park developed in conjunction with the extension of the prefectural cardiovascular center located adjacent to it. With many people visiting it and hospital's rehabilitation programs being carried out outdoors, people enjoy the comfortable outdoor setting, where they can walk amid the allure of a soothing waterfront landscape and promote their health. The park was created in a pleasant water-induced environment that takes full advantage of the healing powers of the river. It expresses the richness of the aquatic environment and has a natural seawall that blends smoothly with the surrounding ecosystem. The wooden Saruhashi Akagi Bridge across the river is a unique rigid frame bridge with underlying supports and is a warm symbol of the park.
