A common practice was to create a “built-up” molding with a variety of patterns to give the illusion that the crown molding was extremely wide. Wit h nine and ten foot ceilings, a large crown will give a balanced feel to the room. Please note that the top knife is used to cut the decorative face and the bottom knife cuts the back angles.
