Class of 2018 First Destination Outcomes Report Alumni Outcomes within Six Months of Graduation Executive Report Office of Institutional Research & Assessment March 22, 2019 Dear Colleague, Last academic year, Wheaton College sent 345 new alumnae/i out into the world to pursue their dreams. The Office of Institutional Research is pleased to report that, for the fourth year in a row, over 96 percent of respondents to the First Destination Survey were engaged in activities such as full-time employment, part- time employment, graduate school, internships or service, and competitive national fellowships within six months of graduation. Wheaton gathered information from 228 of the 345 members of the Class of 2018 through surveys, social media searches, graduate school enrollment records, and personalized contacts with alumni. Among respondents, 81 percent were employed, 7 percent were in graduate school, and 10 percent were involved in competitive fellowships, internships or national service as their primary activity as of December 2018. A number of offices and methods helped Wheaton to achieve a knowledge rate of 66% for the Class of 2018. Starting in 2015, IR has worked with the Advancement division to deliver the First Destination Survey. After the survey closes, National Student Clearinghouse data is used to check for graduate school enrollment. The Filene Center for Academic Advising and Career Services also help to determine missing alumni activities. Additionally, social media such as LinkedIn allowed us to further increase the knowledge rate of the Class of 2018. Customized reports have been generated for each academic area and made available for internal use. The reports provide comparative data for the five classes that have taken the First Destination Survey so far: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 graduates. We hope that this information will help faculty better understand the opportunities their students pursue after Wheaton. Outcomes data will also inform discussions with prospective students and families. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.
