Magnificat Fun Route

Magnificat Fun Route

MAGNIFICAT FUN ROUTE Distance = 45 km (27 miles) Difficulty = Challenging Category = On-Road Start Point = Market Place, Newbury This ride follows part of the Magnificat Sportive route, with some challenging hills and beautiful scenery. The route takes in parts of North Hampshire, passing through Woolton Hill, Burghclere, Sydmonton, Ecchinswell and Kingsclere. Once out of Newbury, the route mostly sticks to quiet country lanes, although there are a couple of places where you have to cross busy A-roads. If the route whets your appetite then why not sign up for the sportive, which takes place in July each year. There are three different rides with 44, 82 and 125 mile options. There are several pubs along the route, such as the Royal Oak at Ecchinswell, the Three Horseshoes at Brimpton and the Traveller’s Friend at Crookham Common. www.westberkshirespokes.org Map courtesy of www.sketchmap.co.uk Total Link Directions km km 0.1 0.1 @ traffic signals into Cheap Street 0.4 0.3 @ mini-rbt to continue along Market Street 0.5 0.1 @ traffic signals into Bartholomew Street 0.6 0.1 @ mini-rbt into Bartholomew Street 0.8 0.2 @ traffic signals into Newtown Road 1.0 0.2 @ rbt into St John’s Road 1.4 0.4 @ rbt across A339 1.5 0.1 @ mini-rbt into Greenham Road 1.7 0.2 @ mini-rbt into Racecourse Road 2.1 0.4 @ mini-rbt into Racecourse Rd & continue into New Rd 2.8 0.7 @ junction to join bridleway 3.1 0.3 @ end of bridleway into New Road 3.4 0.3 @ T-junction into Pinchington Lane 3.6 0.2 @ mini-rbt into Pinchington Lane 4.2 0.6 @ mini-rbt into Pinchington Lane 4.4 0.2 @ mini-rbt past Tesco 4.6 0.2 @ mini-rbt past retail park 4.7 0.1 @ rbt towards Wash Common 4.8 0.1 @ rbt into Monks Lane towards Wash Common 6.1 1.3 @ double mini-rbt into Essex Street 8.2 2.1 @ junction into Andover Drove 8.7 0.5 @ T-junction into Washwater towards Woolton Hill 9.2 0.5 @ junction into Station Road towards Woolton Hill 10.2 1.0 @ junction towards Broad Layings 10.4 0.2 @ junction past pedestrians in road sign 10.7 0.3 @ T-junction 11.2 0.5 @ T-junction towards Newbury 11.5 0.3 @ X-roads towards Penwood 14.2 2.7 @ T-junction towards Burghclere 14.8 0.6 @ junction into Spring Lane towards Ecchinswell 15.6 0.6 @ T-junction towards Ecchinswell 16.9 1.3 @ fork towards Ecchinswell 17.0 0.1 @ T-junction towards Ecchinswell 19.1 2.1 @ T-junction into Ecchinswell 19.4 0.3 @ junction towards Kingsclere 22.2 2.8 @ T-junction into Newbury Road 22.6 0.4 @ rbt into Union Lane 27.0 4.4 @ T-junction towards Ashford Hill 27.8 0.8 @ junction towards Woodlands Farm 30.2 2.4 @ X-roads past 7.5 T weight restriction 30.6 0.4 @ T-junction towards Brimpton 32.4 1.8 follow road round Three Horseshoes PH 37.0 4.6 @ junction into Bury’s Bank Rd to Greenham Common 40.3 3.3 @ rbt to continue along Bury’s Bank Road 41.7 1.4 @ junction into New Road towards Greenham Church 42.1 0.4 to join bridleway 42.4 0.3 @ T-junction into New Road 43.1 0.7 @ mini-rbt into Racecourse Rd 43.4 0.3 @ T-junction into Greenham Road 43.6 0.2 @ mini-rbt 43.7 0.1 @ rbt across A339 into St John’s Road 44.1 0.4 @ rbt into Newtown Road 44.4 0.3 @ traffic signals into Bartholomew Street 44.6 0.2 @ mini-rbt into Bartholomew Street 44.7 0.1 @ traffic signals into Bartholomew Street 45.0 0.3 @ traffic signals into Mansion House Street .
