SOFTBALL ARIZONA STATE Won Its Second National Title in a 2-0 Series Sweep of SEC Standout Florida in the Women’S College World Series Championship

SOFTBALL ARIZONA STATE won its second national title in a 2-0 series sweep of SEC standout Florida in the Women’s College World Series championship. Sun Devil pitcher Dallas Escobedo, the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year, was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Women’s College World Series. She became the !rst freshman to win the title-clinching game since UCLA’s Heather Compton did it in 1990. Arizona State becomes just the fourth team in NCAA Division I softball history to win multiple national titles, joining the likes of ARIZONA, UCLA and Texas A&M. Seven of eight Pac-10 squads made the NCAA postseason, ARIZONA, ARIZONA STATE, CALIFORNIA, OREGON, UCLA and WASHINGTON and six of those seven squads advanced to Super Regionals. Top-seeded Arizona State and California represented the Conference at the Women’s College World Series. In Conference play, the Sun Devils won their second Pac-10 title overall under the direction of Pac-10 Coach of the Year, Clint Myers. Stanford junior shortstop Ashley Hansen racked up the honors in 2011, as she was named USA Softball Player of the Year, Pac-10 Player of the Year and Pac-10 Batting Champion.
