It replaced Cumberland Oval as the new Richard Harris Mitsubishi Electric Australia Pty Ltd home for Rugby League in Western Sydney. 348 Victoria Rd, Rydalmere NSW 2116 With its predecessor being oval in shape, the new venue was made Australia rectangular to support not only Rugby League, but Football and Rugby Phone: +61 (02) 9684 7777 Fax: +61 (02) 9684 7208 Union as well. The Parramatta Stadium Trust was formed and took control of the ground in March 1989 from the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust. In 2012, Parramatta Stadium Trust commissioned to replace the old, decaying LED stadium screen with a state-of-the-art installation that would support modern day visual sources and provide visitors with a more engaging experience during sporting and entertainment events. THE CHALLENGE As the stadium display would be located on the southern hill of the sports field, high brightness with wide viewing angles was essential. Additionally, since it would be used in the afternoons through to the evenings, the screen should be able to detect changes in the ambient light and adjust its brightness accordingly. The screen had to be able to cater for multiple images sources with varying resolutions (from standard to high definition). It would be situated on a small sloped hill made up of loose backfill soil in an area susceptible to strong southerly winds, so a solid primary support structure was also a priority. VISUAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS PARRAMATTA STADIUM - SYDNEY THE SOLUTION The Parramatta Stadium Trust chose Mitsubishi Electric’s Diamond Vision technology for the new stadium screen. A new steel frame was constructed to support the Diamond Vision installation. Screw pile footings were used to support the primary steel framing and provide increased screen stability in high winds. The frame design included four catwalks behind the LED cabinets, providing easy access for repair or maintenance. The 98.3 m² (12.8m wide by 7.68m high) screen was made using 20 separate cabinets comprised of ODX-8 Diamond Vision LED modules. The X-Series technology is ideal for outdoor LED screen use as it features high brightness (up to 6000 cd/m²), wide viewing angles and comes with a built in brightness sensor which measures surrounding light, then raises or lowers the screen brightness as needed for more efficient power consumption without sacrificing picture clarity. The screen is able to reproduce high quality visuals at any resolution thanks to a number of innovative image-enhancing technologies. Dynamic Pixel Control allows LEDs of neighbouring pixels to function as a pixel cluster together without pixel sharing, while Scanning Line Interpolation improves images sharpness by increasing the scan frequency of input signal lines across the screen. A TriCaster content managament system is used to control the various image feeds being sent to the screen. These are passed through a Mitsubishi Digital Display Controller unit, which provides users with high level control over: • Brightness • Gamma, • Colour • Tint • Contrast • Gradation Other features include 3-D Motion Adaptive Interpolation to reduce jagging in video sources, automatic image scaling, natural colour conversion, as well as power consumption and heat monitoring. END RESULT The screen debuted to the public on October 6th at the first game of the A-League football season for the Western Sydney Wanderers and was extremely well received by the Parramatta Stadium Trust management and the viewing public. With the Diamond Vision screen in place, visitors to the stadium can look forward to an enhanced live sporting experience. .
