(24) Pondicherry Police Service, Group 'B'. 1 The Unique Academy Eligibility Criteria (a) Nationality : Any Indian Citizen can apply for the examination. (b) Age limit : General category : 21-32 years OBC : 21-35 years SC/ST : 21-37 There is a age relaxation of 5 years for ex-servicemen as well as defence services personal disabled in operations during hostilities. For blind, deaf-mute, and orthopedically handicapped person, it is 10 years (c) Educational Qualification : Degree of any recognized university i.e. Graduation in any stream done either regularly of externally. (d) Physical qualification : Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards prescribed by Commission. (e) Number of Attempts : (1) General Category : 6 (2) OBC : 9 (3) SC/ST & other : No limit (4) Physical Handicapped : as many attempts as are available to other non-physically handicapped candidates of his/her community. For general category physical handicapped candidate these are 9. (f) Examination Centers : Preliminary and Mains Examinations are held in major cities across India & Personality test is held at Dolhpur House, the UPSC Headquarter at New Delhi. In Maharashtra Preliminery Examination is held at (i) Aurangabad, (ii) Mumbai, (iii) Navi Mumbai, (iv) Pune, (v) Thane, while centre for main examination is Mumbai. Candidate has choice to opt. for any centre in India. Application Mode of Application & Fees : Online (www.upsconline.nic.in) : Rs 100 for Preliminary & Rs. 200 For Main Examination : Fees to be paid by through Cash in any SBI branch, on by net banking or by using Ctedit/Debit Card, Females/SC/ST PH Candidates are exempted from payment of fees. 2 The Unique Academy The Brief Scheme of Examination (A) Preliminary Examination It consists of two papers, each carrying 200 marks. (Total 400) The prelims is essentially an objective type of test based on multiple-choice questions. It has negative marking system. Moreover, it is primarily a qualifying test. , (1) General Studies Paper 1:100 Questions, 2 marks each Duration: Two hours ¾ Current events of national and international importance ¾ History of India and Indian National Movemeat ¾ Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World ¾ Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc ¾ Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc ¾ General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change that do not require subject specialisation ¾ General Science (2) General Studies Paper II (CSAT) : 80 Questions, 2.5 marks each (200 marks) Duration: Two hours ¾ Comprehension ¾ Interpersonal skills including communication skills ¾ Logical reasoning and analytical ability ¾ Decision-making and problem-solving ¾ General mental ability ¾ Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.Class × level), ¾ Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc, Class × level) ¾ English Language Comprehension skills (Class × level). ¾ General Studies Paper II i.e CSAT has been declared as a qualitying paper from 2015. A candidate has to secure 33% marks (66 out of 200 marks) in order to qualify in it (B) Mains Examination The mains examination is entirely a descriptive and analytical test, hence known as a written test. It consists of the following Papers: Qualifying Papers (Duration of each paper is 3 hrs.) (i) Compulsory English: 300 Marks (ii) Indian Language: 300 Marks The standard of both these papers is that of Matriculation. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking, but minimum marks required to qualify in these papers are 3 The Unique Academy 25% for Indian language and 25% for compulsory English. The pattern of question would be as follows - (i) Comprehension of given passages. (ii) Precis writting. (iii) Usage and vocabulary. (iv) Short essays. (v) Translation from English to Indian language and vice versa. The Papers to be counted for Merit (Duration of each paper is 3 hrs.) (1) Paper I - Essay (250 Marks) : Candidate may be required to write essays on multiple topics. They will be expected to keep closely to subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in ordely fashion and to write concisely. Credit will be given for effective and exact expression. General Studies : In Mains Paper II to V are respectively General Studies paper i, ii, iii & iv. Each GS paper carries a weightage of 250 marts. Thus 1000 marks are as if reserved for the entire GS. (2) Paper II, General Studies -I (250 Marks) Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of World and Society. ● Indian culture and its various forms, ● Modern Indian History, Freedom Struggle, ● Post Independence Consolidation within country. ● History of the world, ● Features of Indian Society, ● Women issues, ● Social dynamics, ● World's physical geography; ● Natural resources across the world ● Important geophysical phenomenons. (3) Paper III General Studies - II (250 Marks) Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations. ● India's Political system, ● Governance and Constitution of India, ● Constitutional and non-statutory and statutory institutions, ● Development process, ● Welfare schemes, ● Issues relating to poverty and hunger, ● Civil Services in India, ● India's neightourhood relations ● International institutions and agencies, their structure and mandate. 4 The Unique Academy (4) Paper IV General Studies - III (250 Marks) Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management. ● Indian Economy, Budget, ● Agricultural Economics, ● Food Processing, ● Land reforms, ● Infrastructure & Investment Models, ● Developments in Science & Teehonology, ● India's achievement in field of science and techonology, ● Environment, ● Disaster Management, ● Issues related to development, Extremism, ● Internal security, ● Security agencies etc. (5) Paper V General Studies -IV (250 Marks) Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude ● Attitude and approach to issues related to integrity, ● Probity in Public life and his/her problem solving approach ● Ethics and Human Interface Attitude, Aptitute, ● Civil Services Values, and Ethics. ● Moral thinkers and philosphers from India and World. ● Ethics in Public Administration ● Probity in governance and related case studies. Optional Subject: Every candidate has to select one optional subject. Hence paper VI &VII are papers of optional subject. Like GS each optional paper carries the weightage of 250 marks. Thus 500 marks are dedicated for the optional subject, (6) Paper VI - Optional Paper I (250 Marks) (7) Paper VII - Optional Paper II (250 Marks) A candidate has to choose any one optional subject from the list of subjects given below.
