Matches were exposed to STEM careers and participated in STEM activities to increase their awareness and interest in this thriving field. Highlights included: seeing 3D printing up close with a local startup company; understanding watersheds and using microscopes with the Washington County Conservation District; and learning about energy and recycling with The Friends of Drake Well, Inc. STEM activities are a natural fit for Pittsburgh Public’s Science and Technology Academy, where students already have a passion for science, technology, engineering and math. This year, BBBSPGH specifically recruited mentors in the STEM field, representing careers in engineering, programming, and technical support. This group of matches had the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship from companies including PathVu and Nowait. Site-Based Overview High School Mentoring College Mentoring Workplace Mentoring Be a Middle School Mentor (an initiative of the United Way of Southwestern PA) 3 | 2016 BBBSPGH Fiscal Report Site-Based Programs mentor2.0 NEW AND OLD FRIENDS AT MENTOR2.0 MENTOR2.0 entered its second year at Brashear High School and matched a new cohort of ninth grade students with caring and supportive mentors. Tenth-grade students were reunited with their mentors after the summer break to begin their second year of the four-year program. A total of 135 HIGHLIGHTS students participated during the 2015-2016 school year. • 10th grade students enjoyed their first college visit at Penn State Greater Allegheny.
