METROPOLITAN SECTION NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2, 2015 ~ PAGE 2 Eight Section Assistants Make Cut at National Car Rental PGA Assistants Championship The Met PGA was incredibly well represented at the recent National Car Rental PGA Assistants Championship. Eight of our professionals from the 13 player contingent survived the 36-hole cut meaning that more than 10% of the field for the final 2 days was from our Section. Top finishers were Ben Polland of Deepdale (T-12), Frank Bensel of Century (T-17), Nick Beddow of Piping Rock (T-45), John DiPilato of Old Oaks (T-49), Paul Selvaggio of Wyakagyl (T-53), Kyle Baehler of Willow Ridge (T-60), Anthony Casalino of Innis Arden (T-60) and Grant Sturgeon of Winged Foot (70th). We are certainly proud of the above as well as fellow qualifiers John Guyton (Wheatley Hills), Matt Noel (Huntington), Bill Van Orman (Meadow Brook), Kevin Ausserlechner (Darien) and Kent St. Charles (Willow Ridge). Assistants Board Reelected at Mount Kisco Country Club Fall Meeting The Assistants at their recent Fall Meeting closed out business for the 2015 year with the presentation of the Gil McNally (most improved player) Award to Kent St. Charles of Willow Ridge CC and the election of Officers. Ben Polland, one of the assistants representing the Section at the National Car Rental PGA Assistants Championship was announced as the winner of the Stroke Average honors. Elected to President was Dennis Dungee of Mount Kisco CC, Tyler Jaramillo of The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club as the 1st Vice-President; Pete Catanzaro of Scarsdale GC as 2nd V-P; Jimmy Farrell of The Creek Club as Secretary and Alex Smith of North Hempstead CC as Treasurer. Three other assistants put their names up for election (Anthony Rosaforte from Apawamis, Dylan Thew from Deepdale and Ryan Zachary from North Hills) also threw their hats in the ring for an officer’s position and although not elected, all made excellent presentations. Success Stories Abound in Junior Fund-Raising and Patriot Golf Day - Fall Meeting Raffle Rewards Participating Clubs and Professionals Our December Newsletter will include a recap of the fund-raising efforts by our professionals and will include some of the late season events and reports (Saint Andrew’s and Old Oaks among them). A special thanks to everyone who made an effort to support our junior golf initiatives and to promote the Patriot Golf Day mission. Thanks to Brendan Dlouhy and Titleist, we also again raffled off a number of prizes based on every thousand dollars that clubs raised for Folds of Honor. Obviously the clubs that were the most generous had a greater chance of winning but there were still over 40 prizes that were won. Click here for the list of winners. 2016 Scheduling is Underway Thanks to the many professionals who have already contacted the Met PGA Office with offers to host a 2016 event on our Section, Assistants and/or Junior Tour schedules. Now is the time to let us know if you can help out as the Tournament Committee will be trying to get as much scheduled for next year by the end of this month. We are especially thankful to those who continue to support the 100+ events on our Junior Tour. Click here for a Junior Tour request form. METROPOLITAN SECTION NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2, 2015 ~ PAGE 3 Tournament News & Notes Congratulations to recent Senior Treiber Memorial Champion, Charlie Bolling. We don’t usually mention specific events and rounds in the Newsletter but his final round 62 (a course record of 8 birdies, an eagle and 2 bogeys on greens that were nasty fast and hard) is worth a special notation. In another area senior competition, the LIGA Senior Open was played at Laurel Links and shortened to 18 holes because of weather. Charlie Stucklen of Sebonack won with a 72 followed by Charlie Bolling (73) and Mike Caporale of North Hills tied for 3rd at 74. Caporale also won the Super Senior Flight, followed by Darrell Kestner with 75 and Tom Joyce with 77.
