KUALA LUMPUR: The United States Defence Secretary Willian Cohen who is currently attending the fourth Pacific Dialogue on business, culture and security said the United States will think about ways to help the Asean nations to overcome the current economic crisis. KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Malaysia has been able to tacke problems such as in the currency and stock markets fairly well because of its stability. Page 1 3. KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu is confident that Malaysians, known for their dedication and commitment, will be able to pull through the current economic crisis and restore the economy back on track. Page 2 4. KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has assured that although the expenses for the Sukom Games has been slashed due to the currency and economic problems, it will not affect the Games in any way. Page 2 5. KUALA LUMPUR: Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Megat Junid said the ministry will impose a ceiling price for each locally produced goods to ensure fair prices. Retailers caught selling these items above the ceiling prices will face appropriate action, he said. Page 3 6. KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia has not experienced retrenchment of workers in big numbers despite the current economic problem. Page 3 7. TELUK INTAN: National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary general N.Sivasubramaniam said appropriate action must be taken against civil servants who misuse the powers and ignore their responsibilities. Page 11 8. SEGAMAT: Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Datuk Subramaniam said the government is unhappy with the prices of various brands of mineral waters in the market.
