The largest June air temperature in Belgrade for the 1888-2021 period Mean June air temperature ranged from 19,1ºC in Dimitrovgrad to 24,3ºC in Belgrade, and on the mountains from 12,3ºC at Kopaonik to 18,1ºC at Zlatibor (Figure 5). Departure of the mean monthly air temperature from the normal1 for the 1981–2010 base period ranged from 0,3ºC in Zajecar to 3,3ºC in Belgrade, and on the mountains from 1,4ºC in Sjenica to 2,7ºC at Zlatibor (Figure 6). Mean air temperature in May, based on the percentile method, was in the very warm category in most of the country, extremely warm in Novi Sad, Kikinda, Sremska Mitrovica and Valjevo, warm category in Kragujavac, Pozega, Nis, Leskovac and Dimitrovgrad, and normal category in Zajecar and Vranje (Figure 7). 1 Term normal refers to climatological standard normal, that is, the average value of a particular climate element, calculated for the period from February 1, 1981 to December 31, 2010. 3 Figure 5. Daily course of the mean daily air temperature and accompanying percentiles for Belgrade Maximum air temperature Mean maximum daily air temperature ranged from 27,2ºC in Dimitrovgrad to 30,1ºC in Kikinda. Belgrade observed mean maximum daily air temperature of 29,6ºC. On the mountains, mean maximum June air temperature ranged from 16,6ºC at Kopaonik to 23,5ºC at Zlatibor. Based on the percentile method, mean monthly maximum air temperature was in the very warm category in most of country, extremely warm in Novi Sad, Kikinda, Sremska Mitrovica, Valjevo and Smederevska Palanka, warm category in Nis, Zajecar, Vranje and Crni Vrh. In June, the highest maximum daily air temperature of 40,7ºC was recorded in Smederevska Palanka on June 30 thereby breaking the previous June maximum of 39,7ºC set on June 26, 2007. Record-breaking air temperatures were observed at 14 MMS in Serbia (Chart 1). 5 Chart 1 Summer days2 were recorded across the entire country. Number of summer days ranged from 19 days in Dimitrovgrad to 26 days in Negotin, whereas in the hilly-mountainous regions their number ranged from 2 at Kopaonik to 12 at Zlatibor. The observed number of summer days was 2 to 7 days above the June average. Tropical days3, were recorded in most of the country apart from Crni Vrh and Kopaonik. Number of tropical days ranged from 9 in Kragujevac to 16 in Veliko Gradiste, Belgrade observed 14, whereas Zlatibor and Sjenica recorded 6 tropical days. The observed number of tropical days was 1 to 9 days above the June average. In June, heat wave was recorded in most of Serbia. The most intense heat wave lasted for 9 days on Palic and Kikinda, from 17 to 25 June. In the period from 18 to 25 June, heat wave was recorded in Sombor, Novi Sad, Sremska Mitrovica and Belgrade (8 days), the onset of the heat wave in Negotin was on June 23 and continued throughout July. At MMS Valjevo, heat wave lasted for 7 days (from June 19 to 25). In Sjenica, Kursumlija and Kopaonik, heat wave lasted from 20 to 25 June, and on Zlatibor and Pozega from 20 to 24 June. In Vranje, Dimitrovgrad and Leskovac heat wave lasted for 5 days, from 21 to 25 June, and in Banatski Karlovac from 20 to 24 June (Chart 2). 2 Summer day refers to a day with maximum air temperature 25°C and above 3 Tropical day refers to a day with maximum air temperature 30°C and above 6 Chart 2. Daily course of the maximum daily air temperature and accompanying percentiles for Belgrade 7 Minimum air temperature Mean minimum air temperature in June ranged from 11,5ºC in Dimitrovgrad to 18,0ºC in Belgrade. On the mountains, mean minimum air temperature ranged from 8,1ºC in Sjenica to 12,9ºC at Zlatibor and Crni Vrh. Based on the percentile method, mean minimum monthly air temperature was in the normal category in most of the country, very warm in Novi Sad, Sremska Mitrovica, Valjevo, Belgrade, Crni Vrh, Zlatibor and Kopaonik, and warm category on Palic, Sombor, Kikinda, Loznica and Negotin. The lowest minimum daily air temperature of 0,4ºC was measured on June 3 in Sjenica. In the lowland, the lowest daily air temperature of 4,1ºC was measured in Dimitrovgrad on June 3 while Belgrade observed minimum daily air temperature of 9,6ºC on June 2. Tropical nights4are recorded in the north of the country, central and parts of southern Serbia. The highest number of tropical nights (total of 10) was recorded in Belgrade, which is 7 days above the June average. Zrenjanin recorded 6 tropical nights, which
