LADB Article Id: 058054 ISSN: 1054-8890 Monterrey-based Airline Expands Domestic Service by Carlos Navarro Category/Department: General Published: Wednesday, February 10, 1993 On Feb. 1, Monterrey-based airline Saro inaugurated air services between the capital and four other cities: Guadalajara (Jalisco), Ciudad Juarez (Chihuahua), Hermosillo (Sonora) and Ciudad del Carmen (Campeche). Saro, which started operations in 1991, currently flies 40,000 passengers a month to various destinations in Mexico, competing with Mexicana, Aeromexico and Taesa. According to El Financiero International weekly business newspaper, Saro also plans to purchase two more Boeing 727 aircraft in June to expand service to five US cities by year-end 1993. Those cities are Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Miami and Orlando. According to statistics released Feb. 4 by the Communications and Transportation Secretariat (Secretaria de Comunicaciones y Transporte, SCT), Mexican and foreign commercial airlines transported 24.6 million passengers to and from Mexico during 1992, up 9.7% from 1991. The SCT data showed that one-third of the passengers traveled to and from Mexico City.
