BerkeleyCollege.edu/RequestInfo 6275.2.2019 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Colleagues, Welcome to #NJACAC19, the annual conference for the New Jersey Association for College Admission Counseling. This year, our conference returns to Atlantic City, NJ, however, we turn to a new venue: the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. As we gather in southern New Jersey to “Connect, Create, and Collaborate with NJACAC”, I look forward to meeting new members and reconnecting with those who have returned as members of our association. Our conference theme really helps to elaborate the scope of our mission. As you engage in our conference sessions and all that #NJACAC19 has to offer, please keep our conference theme at the forefront of your thoughts. I am extremely excited to welcome this year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Helen Rothberg, the author of “The Perfect Mix – Everything I Know About Leadership I Learned as a Bartender” and a prominent figure in educational leadership who I know will inspire and encourage all of us to take our skills and talents to the next level. Bob Bardwell, NACAC Board Member, will also be joining us to provide updates from NACAC so that we have a full scope of what is going on in our profession at the national level. This year’s conference will have some splashes of new sessions and meetings along with many of the classics, such as our Sunday evening Camp College Fundraiser as well as raffles and silent auction items which we will look to give away all throughout the conference. Be on the lookout on how to enter those as you have to, as they say, be in it to win it! Along with the many educational sessions for everyone, our conference is, as always, an opportunity to reconnect with old colleagues and establish connections with new colleagues. First time to our conference? No need to worry! We will offer First Timers plenty of opportunities to get engaged with our association. Please be sure to visit our gracious Exhibitors in the Exhibit Hall and to share your gratitude with our generous Conference Sponsors. Your conference bags, goodies, lanyards, among other items, are all thanks to the wonderful rapport the NJACAC has with these various organizations. The success of #NJACAC19 is in great part to our exhibitors and sponsors. My sincerest thanks and best wishes on a successful conference go out to Larry Alterman, President-Elect of NJACAC and the 2019 Conference Chair along with his entire Conference Planning committee. Larry and his team have dedicated much time and effort into planning this year’s conference and their hard work and dedication cannot go without recognition. Furthermore, as we transition the leadership of the association during our annual conference, I have the utmost confidence in Larry and his ability to continue to move our association forward. I cannot implore you enough to continue your conversations and share thoughts and images from the conference via the world of social media by using #NJACAC19 on your posts. It will be awesome to go back and check out all of the amazing thoughts and images from our conference this year. Best, Carlos O. We are excited to have you with us in Atlantic City and we will look to this conference to help you to meet fellow professionals and recharge for all of us in the field of college admission. This year’s theme is “Connect, Create, Collaborate” and with this in mind, let us allow for our conversations during our conference, and after our conference to allow us to remember those three things: the people we serve, the purpose for us doing what we do daily, and to also continue to carry out that purpose with the utmost passion. Being mindful of these three things will serve as an example to our communities that a positive focus on these positive principles have a reach that is much farther than we can imagine. Our conference comes back better than ever for that professional who has attended our conferences in the past or for the new professional who is in the early stages of their career. The idea being that everyone, on every side of the desk, rookie or veteran, will share information, engage in conversation, and connect with one another in the interest of better serving students. We are excited to have Dr. Helen Rothberg as our keynote speaker – an author, a professor whose words on leadership will inspire you. Bob Bardwell, Board Member of NACAC, will provide us with news and updates from NACAC. While at this year’s conference, let us not forget to rekindle connections with current and former colleagues as well as establishing new connections. Not only will you have the opportunity to do that during sessions but also during our pre-conference social on Sunday night, with funds all going to support NJ Camp College as well as our Monday night social. You can continue to support NJACAC programs like Camp College and College Key by participating in our always popular silent auctions and raffles and buy purchasing “Silly Ribbons” to decorate your name tag with! As you get ready to attend our conference, feel free to begin conversations via social media by using our official conference hashtag: #NJACAC19.
