I am sure all bowlers will be looking forward to the summer season following the disappointments experienced due to the restrictions of Covid-19. Some of the Centre’s events last season were initially postponed and finally when reprogrammed for August/September had to be cancelled due to a resurgence of the Covid-19 virus. All Clubs will have suffered due to lack of income during this period and some will be grappling with the prospect of converting their greens from lawn to artificial. Surely if a cost saving exercise is the motive for this decision, then capital finance must come into the equation. As regards Bowls 3Five, Bowls New Zealand has relaxed the rules regarding finding the Centre’s team to compete in the national competition. This year Clubs will be able to run their own competition and provide a team to compete in the Centre’s final’s weekend, with the winning team going forward to Bowls NZ knock-out tournament. Clubs will welcome the increased Sky TV time that has been arranged for this year and should consider membership drives to coincide with this exposure. <ul style="display: flex;"><li style="flex:1">Bowls Bay of Plenty Inc. 2020/2021 | 3 </li><li style="flex:1">4 | Bowls Bay of Plenty Inc. 2020/2021 </li></ul>At the Annual Meeting, clubs decided to start a Baywide Sevens Inter-club competition in the 2021-22 season. The winner of the round- robin event will be the Centre’s entry in the Bowls NZ Interclub competition. Allowance is available for smaller Clubs to enter a combined team (men’s and women’s membership of 20 and less each), thus giving all bowlers access to New Zealand titles. We cannot continue to enjoy our great game without the support of volunteers and we thank you all. A highlight of the season was the successful hosting of the Summerset national fours by the Mount Maunganui Club, using greens in Tauranga and Rotorua. The championship went smoothly – so well that Bowls New Zealand hinted we should put in further hosting applications. Success for local teams were Mount’s Nick Tomsett, finishing third equal in the Summerset national men’s singles held in Christchurch, and Graham Skellern winning the New Zealand Disabled B5-B8 singles. Taupo/ Ngongotaha’s Wendy Green, Lynette McIntosh, Huia Ratana and Doreen Ryan, were runners up in Summerset Women’s fours at the Mount. Congratulations to you all. It shows Bay of Plenty continues to be a force to be reckoned with. On behalf of the Bowls Bay of Plenty Board. The section most used is Draws and Results under Centre Events tab. Results are usually posted within 10 minutes of the round completing. For semi-finals and final they are often posted end by end. If you can’t be there, you have the opportunity to keep an eye on the progress almost in real time. All Centre events can be entered online under the same tab. This is the predominant means of receiving entries and preferred by the Centre. The only cancellation/postponement service the Centre provides is by website notification. The notice will be placed on the home page between 6.30-7.00 am, backed up by an email contact through the Notices facility. If you want notices, make sure you subscribe to the service under the Notices tab. It is also used to notify events such as winter coaching, and website updates. Sporty has provided a useful app for smartphones/tablets making connection a simple task when set up. Download the app and get familiar with.
