OCPH School Report May 13 2021

Outagamie County Public Health COVID-19 Report for Schools – May 13, 2021 Report Scope Information provided in this summary includes confirmed COVID-19 cases from Apr. 28 – May 11, 2021. Some case metrics will be for all persons living in Outagamie County, while other case metrics may be only for persons living in Outagamie County Public Health (OCPH) jurisdiction. School District Scope School district information is organized by the seven public school districts in OCPH jurisdiction. This excludes the Appleton Area School District (AASD) and School District of New London. AASD is served by the Appleton Health Department while over 90% of the New London School District population resides in Waupaca County. Additionally, while the Oneida Nation has their own public health jurisdiction, Oneida cases are included in the Seymour data. State Update The Outagamie County Public Health Division Emergency Order requiring facial coverings has been repealed in alignment with recommendations from the CDC and DHS. OCPH still strongly recommends that facial coverings be worn in public by unvaccinated individuals and that vaccinated individuals continue to wear facial coverings in certain situations where appropriate (this situation is fluid and more materials will be forthcoming). The Fox Cities COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic will not be operating beyond the 27th of May. Emergency use authorization has been granted to Pfizer for use in 12- to 15-year olds. Local clinics are advertising which vaccines they will offer at https://www.vaccines.gov/. This website may be used to find available Pfizer vaccines for 12- to 17-year-olds, as this is the only vaccine that age group may currently receive. Each activity level is supplemented with the overall trends to provide a more complete picture of COVID-19 in a community. Activity levels are categorized as low, medium, high, or very high, to help with interpretation. The addition of a “very high” level helps target those areas of highest concern under conditions where widespread community transmission is already the norm across much of the state. Hospital Capacity helps track the impact of COVID-19 on the regional health care system. It shows trends in COVID-19 hospitalizations and current use of hospital beds, ICU beds, and ventilators. Cases Among School-Age Children: This data breaks down confirmed COVID-19 cases by youth age group or school-aged children. It includes those under age 3, 4–8 years-old, 9–13 years-old, and 14–17 years- old. COVID-19 Vaccine Data provides information on the number of vaccine doses that have been allocated to the state of Wisconsin and how many have been administered to patients (including the type of vaccine). The site provides a breakdown of vaccination recipients by sex, age group, race, and ethnicity at both statewide and countywide levels. You can also see daily/weekly administration and the number of Wisconsinites who have completed their vaccine series. Local data are now available on the DHS website. Curious about how these metrics guide local decision-making? The COVID-19 activity level maps burden and trajectory indicators based on whether the burden status is low, moderate, moderately high, or high and whether trajectory status is significantly shrinking, growing, or have no statistically significant change. Burden Burden status is based on the case rate per 100,000 of residents in the last two weeks. The cutoffs are fairly conservative, but this is appropriate for a highly transmissible virus, where small numbers can multiply rapidly if not properly contained. Trajectory (percent case change) Trajectory is the percent change from previous to current week and p-value (indicates statistical significance) from a test against the percent change equal to zero. OUTAGAMIE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY 6 Determining Activity Level - The current activity level is determined by the current combination of Burden and Trajectory OUTAGAMIE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY 7 WI-DHS data and metrics are available at https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/data.htm *Note that values in this graph reflect all cases in a particular school district, not just cases among children COVID caseloads remained low across most of the county’s districts this week OUTAGAMIE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY 8 Age Group Comparison - Data is for the Outagamie County Public Health Jurisdiction Weekly COVID-19 Cases by School Age Group 90 80 70 60 s e s a C 50 f o 0-4 r e b 40 5-10 m u N 11-13 30 14-18 19-24 20 10 0 Week COVID-19 case rates decreased slightly among children in the county this week OUTAGAMIE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY 9 Percent Weekly COVID-19 Cases by School Age Group 18.0% 16.0% 14.0% s e 12.0% s a C y l k 10.0% e e 0-4 W f o 8.0% 5-10 t n e c 11-13 r e P 6.0% 14-18 19-24 4.0% 2.0% 0.0% Week The proportion of cases represented by school-age children continues to outweigh their proportion of the total population, and did not change significantly this week OUTAGAMIE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY 10 NOTE: No vaccine is currently approved for children under the age of 12.
