Plant is located about 5 kms. north of Bharuch town very close to the command area of Tapi and Narmada rivers and launched by the Gove­ rnment of Gujarat and Gujarat Fertilizers Co. Ltd. on 10th May, 1976. It is the world's largest single stream amonia and urea plant. It has an annual production capacity of 4,45,000 of amonia and 59,400 tonnes of urea. Its by products are liquid amonia/nitrogen/oxygen and sulpher. The Gujarat valley Fertilizer Company has its amonia plant and urea plant alongwith off site facilities including boilers, water treatment plant, coal handling plant, bagging plants, electric power supply, railway siding, water supply etc. at its site. Here the production process is based on a zero pollution concept. The flue gas is discharged through a high stacK of 125 metres. Air pollution is controlled by the recovery of 94% sulphur from Flue gases. The Company provides direct employment to about 1200 persons and generated indirect employment potensial for several thousand persons. At full production level at the prevailing international price, Narmada Urea is expected to result in a saving of foreign exchange of over Rs. 115 crores per annum and will increase annual food grain production by 28 lakh tonnes, and the Indian Farmers added income per year will be Rs. 350 crores.
