Prime Lambs – 1400 The prime lamb market was very strong this week with medium weight lambs firming. Tops $185 - $220 Good $165 - $185 Mediums $145 - $165 Light $125 - $145 Prime Ewes – 800 The mutton market was similar to the last sale with a slight firming for medium type ewes. Tops $210 - $270 Good $160 - $200 Mediums $130 - $153 Light $80 - $115 Store Lambs – 500 An average sized yarding of store lambs today sold at similar levels to the previous sale. Tops $120 - $146 Good $110 - $120 Mediums $100 - $110 Light $70 - $100 Prime Cattle – 200 The sun was out and so were the buyers at today’s Coalgate sale. There was strong competition on well-bred beef type cattle. After last week’s sale been cancelled due to the Canterbury floods this week saw a lift of close to 20c across all categories. A very nice line of Angus Steers topped the sale at $2.80 per kg at 551kgs. The heifers were also strong topping at $2.63 per kg for a line of Angus/Hereford cross. The best Hereford/Friesian cross heifers at 518kgs made $2.66 per kg. Steers $2.53 - $2.79 Heifers $2.41 - $2.63 Cows $1.54 - $1.70 Bulls $1.70 - $2.50 Store Cattle – 170 A mixed quality line of Rising Yearling store cattle were still difficult selling. Angus R1 Steers at 180kgs made $560 per head - $3.11 per kg. Angus R1 Steers at 140kgs made $455 per head - $3.25 per kg. .
