DIEGO VEGA's BIOGRAPHY Diego Vega

DIEGO VEGA’S BIOGRAPHY Diego Vega writes, produces and directs together with his brother Daniel. They have shot their film projects in Lima, their hometown, with their company MARETAZO CINE. Their second feature film, El Mudo (2013), had its World Premiere in Concorso Internazionale at Locarno International Film Festival, where the main actor, Fernando Bacilio, was awarded with the Silver Leopard for Best Actor. The film was then invited to be part of the Contemporary Wolrd Cinema Programme at Toronto International Film Festival, and it’s currently having a worldwide festival tour. As a project, El Mudo was invited to L'Atelier- Cinéfondation at Cannes Film Festival 2011. It’s a co-production between France, Mexico and Peru. Their first feature film was Octubre (2010). With this film they received the Jury Prize in the Official Selection, Un Certain Regard, at Cannes Film Festival. It was invited to over fifty festivals and recognized with prizes like Best Director Award in Cartagena Film Festival, Young Critics Award at the Mumbai Film Festival, Best Film in Mar del Plata, Best Script in Lima Film Festival or Best Film Award in Croatia and Minsk. Octubre was released in cinemas in Peru, Germany, Switzerland, France, USA, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, among others. It was selected to represent Peru for the run to the Oscars 2011. Also with his brother Daniel, they have made two short films, Interior Bajo Izquierda (2008) and Alondra (2013), the first one independently and the second one as part of a project held by BID focus on creating discussion about secondary school desertion in public schools in Latin America. Diego Vega has a degree in Economy and he spent a couple of years working as an economist, before studying Filmmaking at the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. He’s currently living in Barcelona where he teaches at the Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC). .
