With Africa being a market of new opportunities, this offers many synergies for new and former host cities to work together. How can these synergies be optimised? This session consists of a panel discussion composed of IFs and African cities. Presented by Antoine Goetschy, Youth Olympic Games Associate Director at the IOC and Predrag Bogosavljev, Sport and Competitions Director at FIBA. The sport industry has experienced drastic changes in terms of sport consumption and participation. There is an urgent need for cities to inno- vate in order to optimise their investments in sports-related initiatives. However, the environment in which the public sector operates does not always foster innovation. What can cities do to be more innovative? William A. Fischer Professor, IMD — Bill is Professor of Innovation Management at IMD, an author, also a co-founder and co-director of the Driving Strategic Innovation Program in cooperation with Sloan School of Management at MIT. He authors a regular column for Forbes.com entitled “The Ideas Business”. He attained full-professorship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bill contributed invaluably to the international business development of China in the 80s and 90s, where in 1999, he was awarded the Silver Magnolia Award, Shanghai’s highest award for forei- gners contributing to the city’s development.
