NEWS May 2, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONTACT: Michael McCarron Director, Bureau of Community Affairs (650) 821-4000 SF-05-14 [email protected] Independence Air Inaugurates SFO-IAD Service New Low Fare Service to Washington, DC SAN FRANCISCO -- Independence Air (NASDAQ: FLYi) began non-stop service between San Francisco International Airport and Washington-Dulles Airport on May 1, 2005. Independence Air is the sixth airline to announce new service at SFO in just the past eighteen months (AirTran, Air New Zealand, WestJet, Virgin America, and Icelandair are the other five.) To commemorate this new, low-cost, cross-country service, representatives from Independence Air and the San Francisco International Airport will be hosting a celebration at Gate A-6 on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 beginning at 10:30 a.m. With the arrival of Independence Air’s Flight 55 at 11:15 a.m., the Airport Division of the San Francisco Fire Department will provide an official welcome with a traditional water canon salute. Service from San Francisco will be operated on new 132-passenger Airbus A319 aircraft, featuring all-leather seating in a single-class configuration with comfortable legroom. All fares are one-way and no fares require a Saturday night stay. Seat assignments can be reserved at the time of booking and Independence Air does not overbook its flights, assuring every customer a seat. Independence Air currently serves a total of 46 destinations, including major cities like New York, Boston, Orlando and Tampa, as well as smaller cities like Portland, ME, Burlington, VT, Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA and Knoxville, TN. The Independence Air hub at Washington Dulles is the largest low-fare hub in America, in terms of total departures.
