BIOS Claudia Anderson's brilliance and originality as a solo performer have graced audiences in the United States, Europe, and South America since the early 1970's. After graduating with honors from the University of Michigan, and partidpating in the world remiere of Leonard Bernstein's Mass, Ms. Anderson went to Italy on a Fulbright scholarship and remained for several years to play principal flute with the Orchestra dell, Opera del Teatro Massimo in Palermo: Since her return to the United States, she has toured many states as a recitalist, as well as a guest artist and clinician for state and regional flute festivals. Her advanced degrees are from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and the University of Iowa. She has taught at the Universities of Iowa.and Northern Iowa, Ithaca College, Grinnell College, and the University of California at Santa Barbara. Ms. Anderson has recorded for the Golden Crest, CBS (Sony Entertainment Inc.), Centaur, CRI, and Neuma labels. Pianist Diane Birr has·collaborated with numerous vocalists and instrumentalists in recitals and master classes throughout the United States, and in Australia, Canada, France, Scotland, Austria nd Norway. She is frequently featured as a pianist on the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra's Chamber Music Series and in concerts at Ithaca College. Dr. Birr has served as an official accompanist for the Music Teachers National Association's (MTNA) national competitions and the International Trombone Workshop. In addition, she serves as a collaborative artist at International Workshops, a two-week music and arts festival held in locations around the world, where she performs in recitals and master classes and coaches chamber music. Her collaborative performances can be heard on Liscio Recordings, Crystal Records, and Houston Publishing, Inc. Dr. Birr serves as the President-Elect of the New York State Music Teachers Association and is Associate Professor of Piano at Ithaca College. Leone Buyse is Professor of Flute and Chambet Music at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. In 1993 she relinquished er position with the Boston Symphony Orchestra to pursue a ore active teaching and solo career after 22 years as an orchestral musician. Acting principal flutist of the BSO during her last three years in Boston, she was invited by Seiji Ozawa to join the orchestra in 1983 as assistant principal flutist and principal flutist of the Boston Pops. Previously she served as assistant principal flutist of the San Francisco Symphony and played solo piccolo and second ·flute with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Widely recognized as one of America's foremost flute pedagogues, Ms. Buyse has taught at the University of Michigan, the New England Conservatory, Boston University, the Tanglewood Music Center the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and as a visiting associate professor at the Eastman School of Music. She has presented recitals and master classes at universities, conservatories and festivals across the United States, as well as in Canada, Japan, and New Zealand. She may be heard as solo flutist on numerous recordings of the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops and the San Francisco Symphony for the Philips, Deutsche Grammophon, RCA Victor, and Sony Classical labels. Her solo recordings include The Sky's the Limit and Contrasts. Webster Trio recordings include Tour de France and Sonata Cho-Cho San. A native of Ithaca, New York, Ms. Buyse graduated with distinction from the Eastman School of Music, where she was a student of Joseph Mariano. Awarded a Fulbright grant, she subsequently studied in France with Michel Debost, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and Marcel Moyse. Wendy Herbener Mehne is professor of flute at Ithaca College, where she performs with the Ithaca Wind Quintet, was a 1995-96 Dana Teaching Fellow, and the 2004 London Sabbatical Scholar. She is a founding member of the new music group, Ensemble X and a member of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Mehne has been a guest artist and given master classes throughout the United States and has performed at Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Constitution Hall. Dr. Mehne is a contributing author for The Flutist· Quarterly, Flute Talk, and the Instrumentalist, and has recorded for the Albany, Mark Records, and Open Loop labels. She has been secretary of the National Flute Association and served on their executive board. Dr. Mehne holds degrees from the University of Nebraska, Michigan State University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her teachers include David Van de Bogart, Israel Borouchoff, Robert Willoughby, Richard Graef, and Robert Cole. .
