RHENISH NEWS For parents & daughters 29/09/2017 Rhenish Girls’ High School aims to provide its learners with an education of the highest quality and is committed to providing an environment that is conducive to effective teaching and learning. All learners, regardless of their intellectual abilities, social backgrounds and academic aspirations, are encouraged to develop their full potential, to strive for excellence in all they do, and to become responsible, caring and productive citizens. 2017 Book Drive a Huge Important Notices Success 1. A huge thank you to everyone who donated to this worthy cause and to our Head Librarian, Danielle Foster, and the Grade 10 Librarian responsible for this year’s Book Drive, Elmarie Swanepoel. Mrs Francoise Arzul CHAOS Hike On Heritage Day a number of Rhenish girls took it upon themselves to hike Table Mountain. Five Grade 11s and Kelly's mum, arrived at 7:00 to have an early start. It was cold at the beginning but because of the 2 hour hike – a lot of climbing, scrambling and trying not to fall, we warmed up as the sun’s rays came over the horizon. About half way up, we were able to turn from our rigorous climb to experience the beautiful views of Cape Town. It was not an easy hike to the top, but thanks to all the friendly hikers who passed us en route, it was certainly worthwhile. Chaos girls worked together to make it to the top and finish at the bottom – with a couple of wobbly legs after the rigours of the mountain. It was a beautiful hike and extremely worth the early rise! Megan Art Prize Giving 10 October 2017 A couple of thoughts and arrangements with regards Prize Giving: Prize Giving is the highlight of our academic year. It is the event that celebrates all of the many blessings Rhenish has had over the past year and the success that we have experienced. It is a formal occasion and it is compulsory for all learners to attend, whether or not they are prize winners. All parents are invited to attend, not only the parents of prize winners. Please be seated early. Late arrivals disrupt the evening and are strongly discouraged. It is also not a good idea to bring young children along - it is difficult for them to sit through this formal occasion and they may become noisy and disruptive. Please do take Stellenbosch traffic into consideration (and limited parking and, hence, walking). Time your journey to arrive in plenty of time to be seated for the 7pm start. Prize Giving is a long evening and the girls have to remain in their seats for the duration of the ceremony. Please do not attempt to take them or to leave once they have received their prize, it is disruptive and discourteous. The girls are to wear full winter uniform. Rhenish Wellness Route In a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle, Rhenish Girls' High in collaboration with the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport, Stellenbosch University, e'Bosch, CSV Construction and other local schools has opened the first Wellness Walk. Others will follow around Stellenbosch in a bid to keep Stellenbosch and its people healthy and the girls can now do their 1500 daily steps at school and stay healthy! The Wellness Walk is one step on the path towards overall Wellness and Rhenish Girls’ High’s Life Orientation Department is launching a Wellness Week in October. For further details about the programme that Rhenish Health And Wellness Week (R.H.A.W.W) is running, you can go to https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByeIQXO9Pmbhc1ZvMjEyNzdCdW8/view A New little Rhenisher Mrs Larissa le Roux, one of our bursars, gave birth to little Lika le Roux on Wednesday. Lika weighed in at a healthy 3.375kg and is 50cm tall. Mrs le Roux is doing very well. HelderBosch On Saturday, 14 October, a new Inter Schools athletics meeting will take place on the grass track at Strand High School. For this meeting Rhenish will team up with Paul Roos Gymnasium, and we will be competing against Strand High School and Stellenbosch High School. There was a huge need amongst the participating schools for a meeting of this kind to help select their teams for their respective Inter Schools meetings in February. All four schools are committed to this new event on the calendar and believe it is a new tradition that will continue for many years to come. Please make a note of this event so that all Rhenish families can come and support. The first events will start at 09:00 and the winners will be announced at 15:00. On the track athletes will compete in the 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 500, short hurdles, relays and WALKING! The field events will be shotput, javelin, discus, high jump, long jump, triple jump and HAMMER THROW! All participating schools will also invite some Grade 7 athletes who will be attending their schools in 2018 to compete in a few events. The winning school in each age group will be announced, as well as the overall winning team. Athletes will need to get to Strand High School on their own; there will not be any busses from Stellenbosch. Please attend in big numbers and bring the spirit! .
