The enrolled bill would designate the plaza area of the Federal Building in Portland, Oregon as the "Terry Schrunk Plaza". The late Terry Schrunk was a four-term Mayor of Portland. A recipient of two wartime combat medals, he returned to the Portland area and became successively Captain of the Portland Fire Bureau, Sheriff of Multnomah County, Oregon, and finally four-term Mayor of Portland. PURPOSE The purpose o:£ S. 1971 is to approprifl!tely designate and name the plaza adjacent to the new Federal building a:t 1120 Southwest Third Street in Portland, Oreg., as the "Terry Schrunk Plaza." GENERAL STATEMENT The late Terry D. Schrunk was a highly distinguished Oregonian who served as Mayor o:£ the City o:£ Portland :from January 1957 nntil his retirement in ,Janua.ry 1973. Terry Schrunk is remembered by Oregonians :for his unselfish com­ mitment to the betterment o:£ urban li:fe in that State. A recipient o:£ the Purple Heart and Silver Star during wartime, Terry Schrunk returned :from the Navy to rise to the mnk o:£ Captain o:£ the Portland Fire Bureau. In 1949, he was a·ppointed Sheriff o:£ Multnomah County, Oreg., a post in which he served :for 7 years until his election as Mayor o:£ Portland in the autumn o:£ 1956. In all, Mr. Schrunk was elected to the mayoralty :for 4 consecutive terms. During this period o:£ service, he was also chosen as president o:£ the U.S. Conference o:£ Mayors and as president o:£ the League o:£ Oregon Cities. 514)10 . 2 CoMMITTEE Vmws Oregon Republicans and Democrats alike are actively promoting this legislation and the Committee agrees it provides an appropriate and dignified way of recognizing a public servant of the quality and caliber of Terry D. Schrunk. CosT oF LEGISLATION Section 252(a.) (1) of the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1970 requires publication in this report of the Committee's estimate of the cost of reported legislation, together with estimates prepared by any Federal agency. There is no cost to the Federal Government as are­ sult of this legislation. Because there is no cost involved, no report of the Congressional Budget Office is included herein. RoLLCALL VOTES Section 133 of the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1970 and the rules of the Committee on Public Works requires that any rollcall votes be announced in this report. During the Committee's consideration of this bill, no rollcall votes were taken. The measure was unanimously ordered reported on a voice vote.
