Hauts Grades Academy Our next class will open in winter 2019-2020 Hauts Grades Academy is a program designed to promote the education, knowledge, and engagement of members in the Scottish Rite, NMJ. The Scottish Rite was known as the Hauts Grades in its early beginnings. The program is made up of three exciting levels: Level One – The candidate will delve into the ritual of all twenty- nine Scottish Rite, NMJ degrees Level Two – The essay portion of the curriculum will allow for self- reflection and review of Scottish Rite degrees selected personally by the candidate. Level Three – A written research paper on a topic of the candidate’s choice, which will be pre-approved and reviewed by the HGA committee. Research topics can vary between history, ritual, and the philosophy of the Scottish Rite. At full completion, the graduate will earn the honor of becoming a Scottish Rite Hauts Grades Academic, and will be entitled to include the letters HGA after his name. A certificate and HGA jewel will also be awarded upon completion, but an enriching educational experience is the overall goal. Keeping Your Membership Up-to-Date Over the past years the Valley of Cincinnati has received several requests for 14° Ring Services for brothers who were no longer members of the fraternity. This loss of membership can come about in several ways - let’s discuss them here. First and foremost, failure to pay your Scottish Rite dues will eventually result in suspension of your membership. If you no longer wish to belong to the Rite, contact the office and we will try to arrange a demit – this will allow you to leave membership but come back at a more opportune time without a lot of hassle. If you need assistance with your dues, please contact the office and we will work with you to see that your membership is retained. Secondly, failure to keep your blue lodge membership in good standing will result in a suspension of your Scottish Rite membership. The Scottish Rite, like almost all Masonic bodies, is based on blue lodge membership – lose that and all the others are gone as well. The problem that we most often see arises when the Valley of Cincinnati is informed of the suspension of a brother from his blue lodge, so we have no choice but to suspend him from Scottish Rite membership. Unfortunately, when a brother is reinstated into his lodge, we at the Scottish Rite are not always told of that fact, so we have no way of knowing that he is in good standing, and he is therefore listed as ‘suspended’ on our records. If you have been suspended by your lodge, and then reinstated, please make sure that we are aware of your status – we will then go over the steps to get you reinstated in Scottish Rite. Each member is on the mailing list for our ‘Rite Recorder’ publication. If you do not receive the ‘Rite Recorder’ please contact the office. If you have any questions about your membership, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you with your membership. On the Road: Valley of Cincinnati Fall Kickoff has Begun! The Annual Fall Kickoff was held on September 21 at Amelia Lodge #590 and was co-hosted by Sixth District Scottish Rite Club. The event featured the brand new version of the 4th Degree “The Builder” along with the 5th Degree. The event welcomed 130 members along with welcoming six new candidates. There were a couple of successful fundraising efforts that day The Herbert T. Hunt Chapter, Order of Demolay and Children’s Dyslexia Center of Cincinnati were both present and grateful for the generosity of our members. A sincere thank goes out to Amelia Lodge and Sixth District Scottish Rite Club for hosting and to all those who helped behind the scenes to make this a memorable event for all who attended. See you “on the road”. — Brad Toft, TPM The Valley of Cincinnati Achievement Award The Valley of Cincinnati is pleased to announce “The Valley of Cincinnati Achievement Award”, a reward for Valley members who complete a specific number of perquisite steps involving member recruitment and participation in Valley events.
