EULOGY Greg Barton LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING A reading from Paul’s Letter to the Philippians [3.7-11] Yet whatever gains I had, these I have Come to regard as loss beCause of Christ. More than that, I regard everything as loss beCause of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that Comes from the law, but one that Comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God based on faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurreCtion and the sharing of his sufferings by beComing like him in his death, if somehow I may attain the resurreCtion from the dead. For the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. PSALM The Cantor sings the psalm Psalm 18:1-7 I love you, O Lord my strength: O Lord my crag, my fortress and my deliverer, My God, the roCk in which I come for refuge: my shield, my mighty saviour, and my high defenCe. I called to the Lord with loud lamentation: and I was resCued from my enemies. The waves of death enCompassed me: and the floods of chaos overwhelmed me; The cords of the grave tightened about me: and the snares of death lay in my path. In my anguish I called to the Lord: I cried for help to my God. From the temple God heard my voice: and my cry came even to his ears. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. Please stand. GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel aCCording to John. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’ She said to him, ‘Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one Coming into the world.’ For the gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
