Touch leaves, bark, even the ground. Record the textures you felt. Now look for an open space where you can move freely without tripping. Decide on boundaries and a caller. When the caller yells a texture, race from home base to find and touch it as quickly as you can. Play as many rounds as there are textures! Safety first! Activity 2: Iluka Foreshore Park Burns Beach Road, Iluka Medium 30 to 45 mins Observe Micro Hike You don’t need to go on a long journey to discover something new. Forget a one kilometre hike. Try a one metre hike instead! You will need: String, thin rope or yarn Scissors Measure out one metre of string. This will be your hiking trail. Begin your hike at one end of the string, getting close and looking at every detail. Pro Tip! Imagine you are the size of a thumbnail. Find a rock or stick to use as a tiny you. Give yourself five minutes to study the world around you. Once you’ve assessed your surroundings, close your eyes and ask your partner to read out the questions in the Journal Page for this activity. Brain Teaser... how many jobs can you think of that rely on awareness? Count your ideas (some examples include detectives, artists and scientists). Seaweed is important for a healthy underwater ecosystem and is used by humans in food, medicines, and fertilisers. It’s even used in many toothpastes and ice cream! Walk along the beach and start hunting for seaweed. Collect samples of different types of seaweed you find. Remember! Seaweed is an important part of every beach, and must not be taken from its home. Leaves come in all shapes and sizes and can do amazing things as each leaf is important to the plant it grows on. As you explore Warwick Open Space, collect five leaves. Look for ones that vary in shape, size, colour or texture! Be kind to living things... make sure to only collect leaves that have already fallen from a plant. Learn and play in the City of Joondalup Places to Play The City of Joondalup boasts 17km of stunning coastline fringed with foreshore reserve virtually the entire coastline. The beaches have many facilities together with interpretive signs to help people learn about the native flora and fauna they might see along the coast and provide insights into the history of the area.
