INTERNET ARTICLE Masilonyana water woes addressed 22 June 2017 The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) together with Masilonyana Local Municipality on Tuesday, 20 June 2017, unveiled the the Brandfort/ Majwemasweu Bulk Water Project to the media as part of the post budget vote activities aimed at providing progress on the water provision in south Africa. The project came as a result of Masilonyana LM experiencing challenges in supplying sufficient quantities of water to its inhabitants and as a result residents protesting for water. The over R1 million project entailed the construction of raw water pipeline, six pump stations with one pump per station and a standby pump as well as the refurbishment of the entire existing pump station for Theunissen, Brandfort and Winburg in the hope of addressing the water woes of residents. As part of the media tour, media houses were briefed on the project as well as the processes and challenges that were encountered in ensuring the project is completed. The residents of Brandfort and Theunissen will enjoy the fruits of raw water pipeline, clean and quality water after a long wait. Ms Marietta Visser a resident of Brandfort, when asked about the project said it was a long wait however, the community is relieved that at the end, their water woes are over, as a result of the Department of Water and Sanitation and Masilonyana Local Municipality for working together in assisting the community. Mr Ntjwabule the Municipality Spokesperson with a sense of relief said, that he is happy and will be enjoying his sleep from now on.
