Aber Falls Walk

Snowdonia Classic Campers Tour Snowdonia Mountains and Coast CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE IN A CLASSIC CAMPERVAN Aber Falls Walk Visit one of the most spectacular waterfalls in North Wales, Aber Falls (Rheadr Fawr in Welsh). It’s an easy family walk, very straightforward, there and back to view the waterfall that drops nearly 120 ft. (40m) from the hanging valley above. The only drawback is that it can be busy at any time of the year. This walk, well Aber Falls, is best seen after a prolonged spell of rain when the waterfall is at its most spectacular. Make sure you’ve got some waterproofs as when it’s at its most powerful the spray can give you an unexpected soak! Distance: Approx. 3 miles – 4.8km (there and back) Time: Around 1 ½ Hours Difficulty: Easy Family Walk Postcode for Sat Nav: LL33 0LP (approx.) Grid Ref: SH 6624 7199 Ordnance Survey Map: OS Explorer 17: Snowdon and Conwy Valley Start Point The walk to Aber Falls starts from the car park at Bont Newydd, which is reached via a minor road from Abergwyngregyn and the A55 (follow signs). You can park at the lower car park, or you may have to follow the road left over the bridge, and right to the second car park. The trail is clearly marked from both car parks. Directions 1. From the lower car park, the path that goes up stream until you reach a footbridge that leads to a large gate and the main trail Or… 2. From the second car park, you will need to follow the signs for the path back out of the car park and when the road turns left, go over a bridge on your left and through the gate to join the main trail. 3. The trail from now on really needs no guidance as it is that straightforward. So long as you don’t venture off the path, as there are a couple of steeper routes through the conifer plantation. 4. You’ll soon arrive at the end of the walk. The falls are spectacular but be aware, the spray from the waterfall does travel a fair distance! The rocks below the falls are also slippery! 5. Cross the footbridge to get an alternative view of the falls. It can be even more atmospheric in mist, taking on a rain forest feel (though the temperature remains far off). To return to your car, retrace your steps along the trail – you’ve finished your walk so put the kettle on and enjoy a well deserved brew! Please note.
