About Maggie’s Who we are For 25 years Maggie’s has been offering critical practical and emotional support for free to people with cancer and their families. Anyone can come in at any time and get the support they need in beautiful buildings right beside the hospital. Each centre sees around 100 people a day, and our support has been proven to work. That means that people with cancer and their families can start to find a way to cope after a diagnosis. We help them take back control when cancer turns their life upside down, by providing expert support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries. Maggie’s Story Every Maggie’s follows a blueprint for cancer care as originally laid out by Maggie Keswick Jencks. Maggie lived with advanced cancer for two years and was determined that she would not “lose the joy of living in the fear of dying”. In order to live more positively with cancer, Maggie believed people needed information, stress-reducing strategies, psychological support and the opportunity to meet other people in similar circumstances in a relaxed and beautiful setting. Each Maggie’s is individually designed to feel like a home and all have a kitchen table at their heart. The very first Maggie’s opened in Edinburgh in 1996 and there are now 23 centres in the UK and 3 overseas. Maggie’s Carols in the Kitchen About Maggie’s What we do Our team of expert staff are here to help with anything from managing anxiety to talking to young children about cancer or coping when someone you love dies. You can meet and talk to other people in similar circumstances or join one of our many support groups. During the pandemic, we’ve been here for people on the phone and moved many of our courses online. We supported people with cancer nearly 70,000 times during lockdown. But we know how important face-to-face support is and so we’ve made sure our centres can stay open safely following all guidelines. For more information about Maggie’s and to find your nearest centre please visit or get in touch maggies.org 0300 123 1801 [email protected] Maggie’s Carols in the Kitchen Fundraising Your Support Makes All The Difference The need for cancer support has never been greater. To help more people we’ve grown from one Maggie’s centre in Edinburgh to 23 across the UK in just 25 years. Cancer affects more than just your physical health. In a normal year, the emotional impact and disruption to your life can be huge. But over the past year, this has only intensified. Screenings have been missed, treatment delayed, surgeries postponed. For some, there will be unbearable mental anguish as they learn that their cancer is no longer treatable or survivable. You can make a difference. £15 £35 £100 could pay for someone to could go towards an hour could pay for three sessions get one-to-one help with of advice and support over to work through difficult money worries the phone for someone feelings with a psychologist with cancer on the phone We rely on your kindness so that we can provide the best possible cancer support.
