Section 10 is an alternative section of the Jubilee Greenway between sections three and four, starting from the western corner of Victoria Park and following canals to join the Thames through a swathe of picturesque parkland, cutting through the very heart of the East End and leading down to the Limehouse Basin. It is a pleasant route, easy to follow, and affords a wide range of different views and ambience. Join the community enjoying a green finger of tranquillity through the heart of London's bustling East End. Look out for the Jubilee Greenway discs in the pavement as you go round. Directions. Start at Victoria Park (end of section three / start of section four), but instead of entering the park, continue along the towpath of the canal. Go under Bonner Hall Bridge (the main entrance to Victoria Park - cross over bridge for toilets, otherwise stay on the towpath). Pass by Old Ford Lock and under Old Ford Road and over a fairly steep-sided bridge, where the Regent's Canal meets the Hertford Union Canal, then pass under the Roman Road bridge. Shortly after, turn off the canal towpath into Mile End Park at two large orange art installations (the tail of a fish and a float). Mile End Park is split into sections by rail lines and the busy A11 Mile End Road in the middle. Did you know? Mile End Park was created as a result of a plan for London in the 1940s, which envisaged that there would be several green areas connecting different areas of London to the River Thames. As a result the park has been created from land brought into use as parkland over 50 years - much of it formerly housing and industrial buildings. The route follows the main path through the park in S-bends before returning to the canal towpath near Mile End Stadium. Mile End Park now also comprises King George's Field and the Mile End Stadium; you can hear the commentary when events are being held. The path through Mile End Park is segregated for walkers and cyclists, with a smoother tarmac surface for cyclists and a separate path for walkers, running parallel with a planted central reservation between. Go over the top of the Eco Pavilion - look down from the top to view the wildlife, flag irises and reeds around the pond or take a detour down steps to walk around the boardwalks. The path bends around to the right after the Ecology Pavilion and rejoins the canal towpath for a short section. Pass under the green footbridge and alongside the blue-painted Mile End Climbing Centre on your left. Go under the railway bridge and enter the park again on the left. Pass by (or over) the Arts Pavilion - there are three parallel paths here. Continue along the main path until the sports pitches on the right are reached with the Mile End Stadium on the left. Exit the park next to the stadium entrance and cross the Rhodeswell Road at the controlled crossing. Just near the park exit on Copperfield Road is the Ragged School Museum, formerly a school. This is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and the first Sunday of each month (2pm - 5pm) and has a cafe. A short path ahead from the road crossing takes you back onto the Regent's Canal towpath. Turn left onto it and pass under the Parnham Street footbridge, Salmon Lane and Commercial Road. Pass under the rail bridge and enter the harbour complex of Limehouse Basin. Did you know? Limehouse Basin is a navigable link between the Regent's Canal and the Thames, and used to cover an area of 15 acres. It was called Regent's Canal Dock and was where cargo arrived on ships from up the River Thames to be transferred onto canal barges. Today Limehouse Basin is a harbour for expensive yachts and is surrounded by a number of residential apartment complexes. Here, cross the footbridge next to the lock and walk around the west side of the marina. At the lock on the south side of the marina, cross over one of the two bridges to access Narrow Street and the Thames Path. Here the canal joins the River Thames and this is the end of section 10. The area around the marina at Limehouse Basin is a no cycling zone. You can either dismount and walk around, or go straight ahead after crossing the footbridge next to the Limehouse Link. Go past Berglen House and turn left onto Branch Road, then left onto Horseferry Road which takes you round to the river and the end of this section. If you want to take a bus, rail or the DLR home, leave the basin by the steps and head for Commercial Road to find bus stops and Limehouse Rail and DLR station..
