OS Explorer Map 160. ref: 953677 Directions to meeting point From Datchet, drive along the B3021 road towards Old Windsor. At the roundabout, take the A308 towards Windsor. At the next roundabout, take the first exit along the A332 and drive through the Great Park. On reaching a complex roundabout, take the first exit along the B383 towards Sunninghill and Sunningdale. Follow this road until it meets the A329 at a T-junction. Turn right and immediately left along the B383 towards Sunningdale. After ½ mile, where the road bends right, veer left into High Street. The Nags Head PH is 400 yards further on the left hand side. There is free on-street parking along the High Street. Walk description The walk is about 4 miles long and takes us through Sunningdale village to the Wentworth Estate and the internationally renowned golf course. It is mainly flat and along a mixture of paths and small roads. Guest walkers are very welcome. Please remember, guests will be expected to contribute £1.00 to this year’s chosen charity, ‘Thames Hospice’ on the day of the walk. Guests and occasional walkers will be asked to become members if they attend more than 2 walks in any one year. Walkers may wish to take refreshments at the Nags Head PH at the end of the walk. As this is a short walk, we may arrive before the 12 o’clock opening, in which case we could drive to the Belvedere Arms on the Ascot road instead. The Belvedere Arms opens at 11am. 1. Facing away from the Nags Head PH, turn left down the High Street. Pass Church Road and continue along Bedford Lane. Cross the road with care and look out for a footpath sign on the right. Turn right down this path. 2. The path emerges on to the busy A30 road. Cross the road with care using the pedestrian island ahead . Turn left along the far pavement and look out for a footpath sign on the right for “Shrubs Hill Lane and Onslow Road”. Walk down this path to a T-junction with a bridleway. Turn right and follow the bridleway as it bends sharply left to emerge onto a residential roundabout. 3. Turn left and follow the pavement round to reach a footpath sign just before a house called Highgate. Turn left down the path and follow it as it passes through some scrub and woodland. The path reaches a wider path at a bend. Keep left and follow the path as it skirts the golf course on the left side. The path then passes through woodland and emerges on to the golf course. 4. Take care here, as there are a number of pathways that cross the fairways. Follow the path ahead. It soon passes beside a bunker immediately on the right before meeting junction of paths beside another bunker in front. Veer left here and after 50 yards, turn right to follow a broad path that passes through trees. Follow this path as it turns sharply left and emerges from the trees to cross a fairway. The path becomes tarmac-covered and soon meets a wide driveway at a T-junction. 5. Turn left at this junction, which is marked by a footpath sign. Walk along the driveway through Wentworth Estate. Beware of traffic. Some very famous people live in the exclusive houses behind the imposing gated entrances either side. The driveway crosses a fairway (watch out for flying golf balls) before emerging on to the busy A30 road. Cross the road with care and turn left along the opposite pavement. 6. Descend the hill along the pavement. Approaching the Surrey/Berkshire border notice, turn right along the marked bridleway. The path passes through woodland and beside some magnificent beech trees. Emerging from the wood, the path passes Cowarth Park Hotel. Soon after a bridge on the right and just before a small lake on the left, follow the signed path on the left beside a fence.
